Formation of the binary pulsars J1141-6545 and B2023+46

open access: yes, 2002
The binaries PSR J1141-6545 and PSR B2303+46 each appear to contain a white dwarf which formed before the neutron star. We describe an evolutionary pathway to produce these two systems.

Do tax havens affect the usage of share buybacks schemes?

open access: yesAnnals of Public and Cooperative Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines whether the use of tax haven subsidiaries by U.S. multinational corporations (MNCs) is associated with more intense usage of share buybacks. I find that MNCs' more intensive tax haven subsidiary usage is positively associated with a higher buyback ratio, a higher level of free cash flow and a higher level of return on ...

A Multi‐Analytical Approach for the Compositional Characterization and Chronological Discrimination of Benin (Nigeria) Metal Sculptures

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents a multi‐analytical archaeometric approach for the compositional characterization and chronological discrimination of Benin metal sculptures in relation to the 1897 Punitive Expedition. The methodology integrates elemental composition (XRF and ICP), stable lead isotope ratios (MC‐ICP‐MS) for alloy system characterization ...

Timing of a Young Mildly Recycled Pulsar with a Massive White Dwarf Companion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report on timing observations of the recently discovered binary pulsar PSR J1952+2630 using the Arecibo Observatory. The mildly recycled 20.7-ms pulsar is in a 9.4-hr orbit with a massive, M_WD > 0.93 M_sun, white dwarf (WD) companion. We present, for

Exploring the associations of generalized trust, climate change conspiracy beliefs and freecycling: Empirical evidence from 34 cultures

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examined the relationships between generalized trust, climate change conspiracy beliefs and freecycling – a community‐based free‐item sharing pro‐environmental behaviour. It also explored the role of societal factors in relation to participation in freecycling, as well as how they are associated with these relationships.

Platelet Count to Spleen Diameter Ratio for the Diagnosis of Gastroesophageal Varices in Liver Cirrhosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2017
Platelet count to spleen diameter ratio (PSR) was studied extensively as a noninvasive method of diagnosis for varices. The present study aimed to systematically assess the performance of PSR in the diagnosis of varices.

Shame as a mediator of the association of childhood emotional abuse with aversive cognitive perseveration in adults

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Childhood emotional abuse (CEA) has been linked to response‐focused emotion regulation in adulthood. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. This pre‐registered study examined whether shame mediates the association between CEA history and aversive cognitive perseveration (ACP), including brooding rumination, experiential ...
