New records of moth flies (Diptera, Psychodidae) for the Dutch Fauna [PDF]

open access: yesBiodiversity Data Journal, 2023
Prior to this study, the moth flies in The Netherlands were represented by 61 species. Our findings derive from a citizen-science expedition in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, one of the oldest public parks and best known parks in The Netherlands.

Antennae of psychodid and sphaerocerid flies respond to a high variety of floral scent compounds of deceptive Arum maculatum L. [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Insect-pollinated plants often release complex mixtures of floral scents to attract their pollinators. Yet scent compounds eliciting physiological or behavioural responses in pollinators have only been identified in few plant species.

Local Insect Availability Partly Explains Geographical Differences in Floral Visitor Assemblages of Arum maculatum L. (Araceae) [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Geographical variation in abundance and composition of pollinator assemblages may result in variable selection pressures among plant populations and drive plant diversification.

Revisionary notes on Feuerborniella Vaillant, 1971, with the first record of the genus from the Afrotropical region (Diptera, Psychodidae) [PDF]

open access: yesDeutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift, 2023
We establish a diagnosis for Feuerborniella Vaillant, 1971, based on a re-description of its type species, Feuerborniella obscura (Tonnoir, 1919) and comment on earlier diagnoses. Feuerborniella sinefurcata Kvifte & Jaume-Schinkel, sp. nov.

New species of Psychoda Latreille (Diptera: Psychodidae) from Brazilian Amazon with sexual association using molecular data

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2023
Psychoda Latreille is one of the largest genera of Psychodidae, with around 450 species, from which more than 130 are known from only one of the sexes. This is a result of the high diversity, sympatry of close related species and scarcity of diagnostic ...

Urinary Myiasis in a Child Caused by Psychoda Species- A Rare Case

open access: yesNational Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2023
Human myiasis is infestation of human living tissue with dipterous larvae. Urinary myiasis is quite rare, because the fly has to bypass the clothing/reach the inaccesable site (genitals) to lay egg, larva has to hatch and migrate to urinary bladder.
