Detection of minimal hepatic encephalopathy: Normalization and optimization of the Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score. A neuropsychological and quantified EEG study

open access: yesJournal of Hepatology, 2008
Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score (PHES) and EEG are used to detect minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE). We aimed at standardizing PHES in Italy and comparing Italian, German and Spanish norms in EEG characterized cirrhotic patients.PHES was standardized on 228 normal individuals. Repeatability was studied in 128 individuals.

Normalization of the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score for diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in Turkey

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, 2017
To construct normal values for the tests of the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) and evaluate the prevalence of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) among Turkish patients with liver cirrhosis. One hundred and eighty-five healthy subjects and sixty patients with liver cirrhosis without overt hepatic encephalopathy were included in the ...

Value of Critical Flicker Frequency and Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score in Diagnosis of Low-Grade Hepatic Encephalopathy

Gastroenterology, 2014
Critical flicker frequency (CFF) and psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) analyses are widely used to diagnose hepatic encephalopathy (HE), but little is known about their value in the diagnosis of low-grade HE.The diagnostic values of CFF and PHES were compared using a computerized test battery and West Haven criteria as reference.

Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score for the detection of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in Korean patients with liver cirrhosis

Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (Australia), 2012
AbstractBackground and Aim:  Although the Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score (PHES) for the diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) has been validated in several countries, further validation is required for its use in different populations.

Normalization of the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score in Polish population. A prospective, quantified electroencephalography study

Liver International, 2013
AbstractBackgroundThe psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) is recommended as a gold standard in evaluation of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Normative databases have been collected in few countries, clearly showing differences among studied groups.

Diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in a tertiary care center from eastern Romania: validation of the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES)

Metabolic Brain Disease, 2016
The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) is frequently used as a "gold standard" for the diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE). In Romania, there are currently no widely available tests for the detection of MHE. In this study we aimed to standardize the PHES in a healthy Romanian population and to estimate the prevalence of MHE ...

Resting-state functional connectivity abnormalities correlate with psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score in cirrhosis

European Journal of Radiology, 2015
Neurocognitive impairment is a common complication of cirrhosis and regarded as the important characteristic for early stage of hepatic encephalopathy (HE). This study aimed to investigate the changes in brain network centrality of functional connectivity among cirrhotic patients and uncover the mechanisms about early HE.Twenty-four cirrhotic patients ...

Validation of the Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score (PHES) for Identifying Patients with Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy

Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 2011
The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) is a battery of neuropsychological tests used in the diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE).The aim of this study was to construct and validate a dataset of normal values for the PHES.Volunteers and patients with cirrhosis with and without low-grade overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) were ...
