Surgical treatment of psychiatric disease can be helpful in certain patients with severe, disabling and treatment refractory major affective disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, and chronic anxiety states. Psychosurgical treatment should be carried out by an expert multidisciplinary team with experience in these disorders.
