Polarizability of atomic Pt, Pt+, and Pt−

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2021
Electrostatic properties are important for understanding and modeling many phenomena, such as the adsorption of a catalytic metal upon an oxide support. The charge transfer between the metal and the support can lead to positive or negative charges on the metal.

Pt/Rh/Pt and Pt/Ru/Pt multilayers for the electrochemical oxidation of methanol and ethanol

Electrochimica Acta, 2020
Abstract The study of metallic multilayers (MM) has presented interesting highlights to understand electrocatalytic properties for organic molecules oxidation. This work reports the preparation and characterization of MM using rhodium or ruthenium as an intermediate layer, Ptpc/Rh/Pt and Ptpc/Ru/Pt, aiming to evaluate the electrocatalytic activity ...

Comparative Study of Pt/Pd and Pt–Rh/Pt Thermocouples

International Journal of Thermophysics, 2010
The Pt/Pd thermocouple has demonstrated superior thermoelectric drift and homogeneity performance over conventional Pt–Rh/Pt thermocouples. Here, we present a systematic comparison of the drift and homogeneity performance of Pt/Pd and Type R thermocouples by ageing the thermocouples at 1350 °C for a total of 500 h and measuring the performance at ...

Energetics of Pt adsorption on Pt(111)

Physical Review B, 1994
First-principles local-density-functional (FP-LDF) and embedded-atom-method (EAM) total energies, for a single Pt atom adsorbed on Pt(111), are compared to each other and to field-ion-microscope (FIM) observations. Our EAM calculations predict a small barrier to diffusion and only a slight energy difference between adsorption in the fcc and hcp ...

Pt···Pt vs Pt···S Contacts Between Pt-Containing Heterobimetallic Lantern Complexes

Inorganic Chemistry, 2013
A trio of Pt-based heterobimetallic lantern complexes of the form [(py)PtM(SAc)4(py)] (M = Co, 1; Ni, 2; Zn, 3) with unusual octahedral coordination of Pt(II) was prepared from a reaction of [PtM(SAc)4] with excess pyridine. These dipyridine lantern complexes could be converted to monopyridine derivatives with gentle heat to give the series [PtM(SAc)4 ...

Origin of Anomalous Pt–Pt Distances in the Pt/Alumina Catalytic System

ChemPhysChem, 2004
The Pt/g-alumina system is representative of many common heterogeneous catalysts, which consist of transition metals dispersed on a high surface-area support. For example, catalytic reduction and oxidation of automotive pollutants is accomplished with platinum (Pt) or rhodium (Rh) dispersed on a galumina surface.

NO Chemisorption on Pt(111), Rh/Pt(111), and Pd/Pt(111)

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005
The chemisorption of NO on clean Pt(111), Rh/Pt(111) alloy, and Pd/Pt(111) alloy surfaces has been studied by first principles density functional theory (DFT) computations. It was found that the surface compositions of the surface alloys have very different effects on the adsorption of NO on Rh/Pt(111) versus that on Pd/Pt(111).

A photoemission study of the oxidation of platinum in Pt-based alloys: Pt-Pd, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir

Surface Science Letters, 1984
Abstract Photoemission technique was used to study the surface composition of PtPd, PtRu and PtIr alloys in a wide range of bulk compositions. The samples were submitted to in-situ oxygen exposures at atmospheric pressure and various temperatures in the 200 to 600°C range. Oxygen induced changes of surface composition were followed.
