Habitat differences in seed‐dispersing vertebrates indicate dispersal limitation in tropical bracken‐dominated deforested areas

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 3, May 2024.
Forest regeneration in tropical bracken‐dominated deforested areas is mainly hindered by dispersal limitation. We found differences in species composition of seed‐dispersing birds and bats between the forest and bracken‐dominated areas, which could be one of the main causes of dispersal limitation in forest regeneration in tropical bracken‐dominated ...

Systematic reduction in seed rain of large‐seeded and endozoochorous species in pastures compared to forests along a tropical elevational gradient

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 27, Issue 2, April/June 2024.
By analyzing variation in seed rain among old‐growth montane forests and livestock pastures along a 2,000 m elevational gradient in the tropical Andes of southern Ecuador, this study reveals that large seeds and endozoochorous species are less prevalent in seed rain from pastures compared to seed rain from forests at the same elevation.

A review on global ferns invasions: mechanisms, management and control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There has been paucity of information and inadequate studies on the invasive potentials of ferns as most invasive ecological studies have so far focused on higher plants across the continents.
