Analysis and clinical significance of pterins
Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1988This review briefly describes the biochemistry of pterins, their involvement in pathological processes and the use of pterin measurement in diagnosis and monitoring of disease. Chromatographic and other methods of pterin analysis are detailed with particular emphasis being placed on the need for correct sample collection and handling.

The Synthesis of Fluorine-Containing Pterins
1993The introduction of fluorine into molecules has been well demonstrated to modify the biological properties significantly1. In heterocyclic compounds this effect is clearly demonstrated through the action of 5-fluorouracil and its nucleosides as inhibitors of thymidylate synthetase.

Pterins in patients with rett syndrome
American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1986We have found normal concentrations of neopterin, monapterin, isoxanthopterin, biopterin and pterin in the urine of 10 patients with Rett syndrome, and normal values for total biopterin and neopterin in the blood of 4 subjects. Thus, there is no biochemical evidence of a generalized tetrahydrobiopterin deficiency in this syndrome.

Calcium pterin as an antitumor agent
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2004A series of in vivo studies are reported that provide evidence for an immunologically mediated mechanism for the antitumor response from a calcium pterin (CaPterin) suspension. Strong antitumor efficacy was demonstrated in fully immunocompetent female C3H/HeN-MTV+ mice (retired breeders) presenting spontaneous mammary gland adenocarcinomas.
