Phenotypic Divergences in Growth and Reproduction Underpin the Invasion of Suckermouth Armored Catfish Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus (Loricariidae) into Lotic and Lentic Habitats in Vietnam

open access: yesWater (Switzerland), 2023
Suckermouth armored catfish (Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus) is one of the most widespread invasive species in Vietnam. However, it is relatively unknown how the species underwent its divergent adaptations to varying local conditions and habitat types, an understanding of which is essential for managing its invasion in Vietnam.

Occurrence of a Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus (Weber, 1991) population in Cauvery River System, Tamil Nadu, South India

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fisheries and Aquaculture, 2016
This study reports the first occurrence of exotic loricariid catfish Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus, introduced for aquarium, in tributaries and fed pond of Cauvery River, Thiruvengadu, Tamil Nadu (South India). The morphological features of P. disjunctivus samples are given and compared with closely related species of the same genus.

Parasites of two coexisting invasive sailfin catfishes (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) in a tropical region of Mexico

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2013
Currently many species of Amazon sailfin catfishes (Loricariidae) have been introduced to wild environments outside their native range. There is, however, little knowledge about their role as vectors of parasites that can infect native fish or even ...
