Parallel and distributed programming with Pthreads and Rthreads
The paper describes Rthreads (Remote threads), a software distributed shared memory system that supports sharing of global variables on clusters of computers with physically distributed memory. Other DSM systems either use virtual memory to implement coherence on networks of workstations or require programmers to adopt a special programming model ...

Reordering constraints for pthread-style locks [PDF]
C or C++ programs relying on the pthreads interface for concurrency are required to use a specified set of functions to avoid data races, and to ensure memory visibility across threads. Although the detailed rules are not completely, it is not hard to refine them to a simple set of clear and uncontroversial rules for at least a subset of the C language

pioman: A Pthread-Based Multithreaded Communication Engine [PDF]
Recent cluster architectures include dozens of cores per node, with all cores sharing the network resources. To program such architectures, hybrid models mixing MPI+threads, and in particular MPI+OpenMP are gaining popularity. This imposes new requirements on communication libraries, such as the need for MPI_THREAD_MULTIPLE level of multi-threading ...

A densely sampled phylogeny of Carex section Lupulinae (107 specimens) is presented, along with a new cryptic species from the southern United States. This species is locally abundant and genetically and morphologically distinct from other Lupulinae. An identification key is provided and phenological and ecological patterns are discussed.
