Design of novel plate for fixation of anterior pelvic ring injury: a digital anatomy study and finite element analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Objective To develop a novel internal fixation system for anterior pelvic ring injuries and to compare the biomechanical stability of this novel anatomical plate with conventional fixation devices in the management of Tile B1-type pelvic fractures using ...

Bipedalism or bipedalisms: The os coxae of StW 573

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
There has been a long debate about the possibility of multiple contemporaneous species of Australopithecus in both eastern and southern Africa, potentially exhibiting different forms of bipedal locomotion. Here, we describe the previously unreported morphology of the os coxae in the 3.67 Ma Australopithecus prometheus StW 573 from Sterkfontein Member 2

Macroscopical and histological characterization of the perineal membrane and deep perineal pouch

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The existence of the deep transverse perineal muscle remains controversial. While the macroscopic appearance of the tissue in the deep perineal pouch differs between men and women, the differences in the histological composition of this fibromuscular plate is still unclear.

The Effects of Gut Volume and Parity on the Pubis

open access: yesHumans
The human pelvis is adapted to accommodate bipedal locomotion while retaining a wide enough pelvic canal to birth large babies. Many forces act on the pubic bone, with the pelvis being in charge of supporting the organs of the abdominopelvic cavity.

Effects of Video‐Based Health Education on Birth Outcomes and Anaemia Status of Mothers in Dirashe District South Ethiopia: A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Undernutrition and infections during pregnancy result in low birth weight (LBW) and maternal anaemia. Social behaviour change communication (SBCC) can promote recommended health practices, potentially improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Histochemical and immunohistochemical investigation of pelvic symhysis of Holstein-Friesian cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Although the knowledge on morphological changes in cattle pelvic symphysis during gestation and obstetrics gives valuable information about the age of optimal primary calving of cows, up to now little research has been carried out about the ossification ...

Clinical Application of 3D‐Printed Custom Hemipelvic Prostheses With Re‐Entrant Chiral Structure in Reconstruction After Pelvic Tumor Resection

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Novel 3D‐printed hemipelvic prostheses incorporating re‐entrant chiral structure achieved 75% porosity while maintaining structural integrity. Clinical outcomes demonstrated 86.7% disease‐free survival and significant functional improvement (MSTS‐93: 14.4→25.7) in pelvic malignancy reconstruction.

Radiographic Predictors of Leg Shortening After Curved Intertrochanteric Varus Osteotomy in Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study investigated the factors contributing to leg shortening after curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy during both the early postoperative phase and the healing phase up to bone union in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head. ABSTRACT Purpose Curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy (CVO) is a joint‐preserving option for young ...
