Steroid-related pubic symphysis diastasis in recreational horse riders
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, 2009Wide diastasis of the pubic symphysis is generally secondary to high energy trauma. Slight separation of the pubic symphysis can be seen when pubic ligamentous laxity or consistency is altered in specific situations namely during vaginal delivery, and in elderly rheumatoid patients receiving long-term corticosteroid therapy after minor injuries.

External Fixation of Pubic Symphysis Diastasis from Postpartum Trauma
Orthopedics, 2008Pubic symphysis diastasis is recognized as a possible complication of pregnancy. When this occurs, pubic symphysis diastasis may cause anterior widening and loss of stiffness within the pubic symphysis, causing potential instability in the pubic joint. The persistent loss of reduction can cause substantial disability in postpartum women.

Spontaneous Resolution of a Pubic-Symphysis Diastasis
New England Journal of Medicine, 2002Figure 1. A 27-year-old, 45-kg primigravid woman presented in early labor at 40 weeks' gestation. Six hours into her labor, an urgent vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery was performed because of fetal bradycardia. Herniation of the bladder after recurrent pubic symphysis diastasis
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, 2010Bladder and urethral injuries are relatively common complications of pelvic trauma; however, bladder herniation into a pubic symphysis diastasis is an unusual sequelae of such trauma. The case reported here is that of a patient in whom the initial open-book type fracture of the pelvic ring with a major pubic diastasis was treated with external fixator.

Internal fixation of pubic symphysis diastasis with a tension banding technique
Injury, 1990We present the details of a method of internally fixing diastasis of the pubic symphysis with stout wires and a tension band which can be employed with speed and ease, through a minimal exposure or minimally extended laparotomy wound. The technique is suitable for those with little experience of internal fixation of the pelvis.
