Teaching perspectives on the communication of difficult news of genetic conditions to medical students

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 191, Issue 1, Page 299-305, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Informing parents that their child has a diagnosis of Down syndrome (DS) is a common example of the delivery of unexpected or difficult news. Expectations and life planning will change, and if detected prenatally, discussions might include the option of pregnancy termination.

Bilirubin Targeting WNK1 to Alleviate NLRP3‐Mediated Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
At physiological concentrations, bilirubin binds to the kinase domain of WNK1, thereby augmenting its activity and facilitating the phosphorylation of downstream SPAK/OSR1. This phosphorylation inhibits KCC2 activity, leading to elevate intracellular chloride levels in neurons.

A 3D Genome Atlas of Genetic Variants and Their Pathological Effects in Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The hierarchical organization of the eukaryotic genome is vital for nuclear function, and disruptions from genetic mutations can alter this 3D architecture. Cataloging thousands of interchromosomal translocations, structural variants, and single nucleotide polymorphisms, their impact on 3D genome organization is revealed. The scoring algorithm, 3DFunc,

The Nuclear Receptor NR1B1/RARα Arrests the Differentiation of Anti‐Tumor Effector Cytotoxic T Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RARα is highly expressed by differentiated effector and exhausted T cells and exerts a negative effect on effector T cell differentiation and the associated trafficking receptor switch. Upregulated RARα levels decrease the nuclear histone acetylase (HAT) activity, and this suppresses the expression of key Teff transcription factor BATF and trafficking ...
