The Cost of Public Funds in Australia*
Economic Record, 1997A model of labour supply is used to calculate Australia's marginal cost of public funds, which is the appropriate cut‐off benefit/ cost ratio for an additional public project. The labour supply model incorporates effective average and marginal tax rates faced by the representative household in each gross income decile.

The Marginal Cost of Public Funds
Journal of Political Economy, 1976The marginal cost of public funds is the direct tax burden plus the marginal welfare cost produced in acquiring the tax revenue. This paper estimates that the marginal cost of public funds for taxes on labor income in the United States ranges from 1.09 to 1.16 per dollar of tax revenue, depending on the progressivity of the change in the tax structure.
