Effect of abiotic factors on pathotypes causing yellow and brown rust in wheat
An attempt was made to determine the most favourable abiotic factors influencing germination of urediniospores of different pathotypes of Puccinia species. The causal organism of rusts in wheat is Puccinia spp.

The integrated concept of disease resistance; a new view including horizontal and vertical resistance in plants [PDF]
Horizontal, uniform, race-non-specific or stable resistance can be discerned according to Van der Plank, from vertical, differential, race-specific or unstable resistance by a test in which a number of host genotypes (cultivars or clones) are tested ...

Plant pathogens as biocontrol agents of Cirsium arvense : an overestimated approach? [PDF]
Cirsium arvense is one of the worst weeds in agriculture. As herbicides are not very effective and not accepted by organic farming and special habitats, possible biocontrol agents have been investigated since many decades.

Pest categorisation of Puccinia pittieriana [PDF]
The Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Puccinia pittieriana, the causal agent of common rust of potato, for the EU. The pathogen is a single taxonomic entity and reliable methods exist for its detection and identification. Cultivated potato (Solanum tuberosum) and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) are the main hosts of P. pittieriana.

Isolation and fine mapping of Rps6: An intermediate host resistance gene in barley to wheat stripe rust [PDF]
A plant may be considered a nonhost of a pathogen if all known genotypes of a plant species are resistant to all known isolates of a pathogen species. However, if a small number of genotypes are susceptible to some known isolates of a pathogen species ...

Progress and bottlenecks in the early domestication of the perennial oilseed Silphium integrifolium, a sunflower substitute [PDF]
Silflower (Silphium integrifolium Michx.) is in the early stages of domestication as a perennial version of oilseed sunflower, its close relative. Grain crops with deep perennial root systems will provide farmers with new alternatives for managing soil ...
