Impact of Land Use Change and Drought on the Net Emissions of Carbon Dioxide and Methane From Tropical Peatlands in Southeast Asia

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 6, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Peat decomposition is progressing in Southeast Asia due to lowered groundwater levels (GWL) caused by drainage. Additionally, droughts during El Niño events significantly lower the GWL, the main environmental factor that controls greenhouse gas (GHG; carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane) emissions in peatlands.

Corallivorous Fish Have Reduced Population Sizes and Altered Foraging Behaviour on a Recently Restored Coral Reef

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 11, November 2025.
We investigated the recovery of corals and fishes at one of the world's largest coral reef restoration projects, in central Indonesia. Within 4–6 years of the coral restoration starting, the total amount of coral and many groups of fishes rebounded back to levels equivalent to nearby healthy reefs.

Integrative Phylogenetic and Morphological Analyses Reveal Two New Species of Porcellanid Crabs and Resurrect Porcellanella picta Stimpson, 1858 (Decapoda: Porcellanidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study uses integrative phylogenetic and morphological analyses to clarify the taxonomy of Porcellanella crabs, revealing four distinct species. The authors resurrect Porcellanella picta as a valid species and describe two new species from Australia (P. brevidentata n. sp. and P. longiloba n. sp.).

Origin and Biogeography of the Colourful Sap‐Sucking Sea Slugs Genus Thuridilla Bergh, 1872 (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Heterobranchia)

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Thuridilla Bergh, 1872, is a lineage of herbivorous sea slugs externally distinguished by bright colours and distinctive patterns of lines and spots. Recent work revealed an exceptionally rapid, cryptic radiation of 13 species in the Indo‐Pacific, raising questions about mechanisms of speciation in this group.

Genetic Population Structure and Distribution of the Small Giant Clam Tridacna maxima in Indo‐Pacific Coral Reefs: History Dynamics, Present Status and Future Trends

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
Six distinct groups were identified in T. maxima across the Indo‐Pacific region, which was shaped by the ocean currents and the late Pleistocene glaciations. Gene‐flow analysis supported the center of origin hypothesis for the high biodiversity of the Indo‐Malay Archipelago.

Supermatrix Phylogenetic Tree of Passerine Birds From the Indo‐Australian Archipelago Highlights Contrasting Histories of Regional Endemism

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.
To better understand the relative histories of bird diversification in the different areas of the Indo‐Australian Archipelago (IAA) we compile an updated and as‐complete‐as‐possible supermatrix phylogeny for passerine birds from the IAA and use this to estimate the different levels of endemism in the IAA.
