Diurnal variation in pulmonary artery pressure [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, 1995
SUMMARY  Previous observations have suggested that pulmonary artery pressure rises during sleep, whereas systemic artery pressure falls. A system has been developed for careful and accurate recording of pulmonary arterial pressure, and applied it to two groups of subjects: patients with heart failure, and patients with chronic stable angina.

The temporal trends and short‐ and long‐term mortality of people with acute myocardial infarction and rheumatoid arthritis: a nationwide cohort study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Aims We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analysed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalised with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the MINAP registry, linked ...

Left ventricular torsion rate and the relation to right ventricular function in pediatric pulmonary arterial hypertension

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2018
The right ventricle and left ventricle are physically coupled through the interventricular septum. Therefore, changes in the geometry and mechanics of one ventricle can directly affect the function of the other.

MYCOPHENOLATE MOFETIL TREATMENT REDUCES THE RISK OF TREATMENT ESCALATION DUE TO VASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN LIMITED CUTANEOUS SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS: EMULATION OF A TARGET TRIAL FROM ITALIAN RHEUMATOLOGY SOCIETY SPRING REGISTRY

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon due to the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of the vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Pulmonary artery pressures with tension pneumothorax [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anaesthesia, 1990
Five hours following an uneventful coronary artery bypass graft operation, an otherwise healthy 54-yr-old man developed a pneumothorax while his lungs were being ventilated in the recovery room. Neither arterial blood gas analysis, ventilatory variables, nor clinical examination had suggested this diagnosis, which was made subsequent to a chest ...

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.
