Automated segmentation of the pulmonary arteries in low-dose CT by vessel tracking [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We present a fully automated method for top-down segmentation of the pulmonary arterial tree in low-dose thoracic CT images. The main basal pulmonary arteries are identified near the lung hilum by searching for candidate vessels adjacent to known airways, identified by our previously reported airway segmentation method.

Efficient Uncertainty Quantification in a Multiscale Model of Pulmonary Arterial and Venous Hemodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Computational hemodynamics models are becoming increasingly useful in the management and prognosis of complex, multiscale pathologies, including those attributed to the development of pulmonary vascular disease. However, diseases like pulmonary hypertension are heterogeneous, and affect both the proximal arteries and veins as well as the ...

What role does the right side of the heart play in circulation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Right ventricular failure (RVF) is an underestimated problem in intensive care. This review explores the physiology and pathophysiology of right ventricular function and the pulmonary circulation.

Intraperitoneal photodynamic therapy causes a capillary-leak syndrome. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
BackgroundIn patients undergoing intraperitoneal (IP) photodynamic therapy (PDT), the combination of aggressive surgical debulking and light therapy causes an apparent systemic capillary-leak syndrome that necessitates significant intensive care unit ...

Endovascular treatment of pulmonary artery aneurysm: Single case experience

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2023
A peripheral pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) is a dilatation involving all 3-vessel wall layers (the intima, media, and adventitia) of a distal pulmonary artery. It represents a rare but potentially life-threatening condition. There are only some reviews

Should we use early less invasive hemodynamic monitoring in unstable ICU patients? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the previous issue of Critical Care, Takala and colleagues presented the results of a multicenter study to investigate whether the early presence of less invasive hemodynamic monitoring improves outcome in patients admitted with hemodynamic ...

Vessel Segmentation and Catheter Detection in X-Ray Angiograms Using Superpixels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading causes of death around the world. One of the most common imaging methods for diagnosing this disease is X-ray angiography. Diagnosing using these images is usually challenging due to non-uniform illumination, low contrast, presence of other body tissues, presence of catheter etc.

Stenting as a Rescue Treatment of a Pulmonary Artery False Aneurysm Caused by Swan-Ganz Catheterization

open access: yesCase Reports in Pulmonology, 2014
Pulmonary vascular injury is a rare but life-threatening complication of Swan-Ganz catheterization. We report an 82-year old patient who underwent right heart catheterization by a balloon-tipped catheter because of suspected pulmonary hypertension. After

Idiopathic Epicardial Ventricular Arrhythmias: Diagnosis and Ablation Technique from the Aortic Sinus of Valsalva [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Idiopathic outflow tract arrhythmias (ventricular tachycardias or symptomatic premature ventricular contractions; OT-VT/PVCs) can originate from the left ventricular (LV) epicardium (Epi-VT/PVCs), and radiofrequency (RF) energy applications from the ...
