Increased levels of hyaluronic acid in bronchoalveolar lavage from patients with interstitial lung diseases, relationship with lung function and inflammatory cells recruitment [PDF]
Purpose: Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) are characterized by inflammation and fibrosis. It described the role of hyaluronic acid (HA) as an immune-regulator. It is not known if HA contributes to the recruitment of inflammatory cells associated with ILD.

A diffuse lung emphysema, severe pulmonary hypertension and lack of airflow limitation
Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease is characterized by remodeling of pulmonary arteries, capillaries and venules. We report a case of diffuse lung emphysema and pulmonary veno-occlusive disease with the characteristic of having no airflow limitation.

Learning Tubule-Sensitive CNNs for Pulmonary Airway and Artery-Vein Segmentation in CT [PDF]
Training convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for segmentation of pulmonary airway, artery, and vein is challenging due to sparse supervisory signals caused by the severe class imbalance between tubular targets and background. We present a CNNs-based method for accurate airway and artery-vein segmentation in non-contrast computed tomography.

Thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity of linear alkylbenzene [PDF]
We report the measurements of the thermal diffusivity and the isobaric specific heat capacity of linear alkylbenzene at about 23$\,^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ with the standard atmosphere, which are measured for the first time. The conductivity, heat capacity ratio, and speed of sound were derived from our measurements based on thermodynamic relations.

Allometric scaling of heat and water exchanges in the mammals' lung [PDF]
Mammals have a high metabolism that produces heat proportionally to the power 3/4 of their mass at rest. Any excess of heat has to be dissipated in the surrounding environment to prevent overheating. Most of that dissipation occurs through the skin, but the efficiency of that mechanism decreases with the animal's mass.

A damaged-informed lung model for ventilator waveforms [PDF]
The acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is characterized by the acute development of diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) resulting in increased vascular permeability and decreased alveolar gas exchange. Mechanical ventilation is a potentially lifesaving intervention to improve oxygen exchange but has the potential to cause ventilator-induced lung ...

The present work is concerned with the fabrication of CO2 sensors based on MWCNTs/ZnO material, which is obtained by RF magnetron sputtering and electron‐beam deposition methods. The sensor exhibits highly sensitive and selective behavior, high repeatability, and temporal stability at low CO2 concentrations.

Correlation between Caloric Intake and Lung Function Parameters in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease [PDF]
Background: There are reports that food deprivation causes emphysematous changes in the lungs of rats and humans. However, the meaning of this phenomenon in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has not been evaluated. The aim of this study
