Outpatient management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is reviewed in this paper. Smoking cessation is probably important, although its benefit in established COPD is unproven. Bronchodilator therapy may be of more than symptomatic benefit and is indicated in virtually all patients.
