Pulmonary Fat Embolism in Rabbits Induced by Forced Immobilization
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1992In the study reported here, rabbits were used to develop an experimental model for inducing pulmonary fat embolism by forced immobilization. The emboli were quantitated by a computerized system. The activity of lipoprotein lipase in post-heparin plasma (PHP-LPL) and concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) were measured. Also, blood gases were analyzed

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 2007
Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a common complication of fractures, usually of the long bones and pelvis. Common computed tomography findings of pulmonary FES include areas of consolidation, ground-glass opacities, and small nodules of various sizes, whereas filling defects in pulmonary arteries are rarely described in nonfulminant syndromes. We present

Surgical reduction of fat surplus leading to pulmonary embolism
Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, 2004Surgical reduction of fat surplus is usually performed on healthy individuals and is reported as a safe procedure as it is not associated with a lethal outcome. Due to the anticipation of peri- and postoperative bleeding as a result of the large wound area, which may have a negative influence on the cosmetic result, patients often receive no or only ...
