Nanomedicine‐Driven Modulation of Reductive Stress for Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article introduces a novel therapeutic paradigm that deliberately induces reductive stress within tumor cells to exploit their unique biochemical vulnerabilities. It systematically reviews the underlying biological mechanisms, current detection and monitoring techniques, and emerging advanced nanotechnology platforms specifically designed to ...

Stars from the bones—An uncommon presentation of fat embolism syndrome

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2023
Trauma or surgery to the lower limbs can cause fat from the marrow within the leg bones to enter the bloodstream and form an embolus. However, if there is cerebral involvement without any pulmonary or dermatological manifestations at diagnosis, it could ...

Pulmonary Dysfunction in Patients with Femoral Shaft Fracture Treated with Intramedullary Nailing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Background: This study was undertaken to determine whether alveolar dead space increases during intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures and whether alveolar dead space predicts postoperative pulmonary dysfunction in patients undergoing ...

Wearable Bioelectronics for Home‐Based Monitoring and Treatment of Muscle Atrophy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As an inevitable disease, muscle atrophy has received more attention. Because the factors that induce this disease are diverse, achieving a complete cure is still impossible. Wearable bioelectronics provides a more comfortable, low‐cost, and efficient way of home care for the monitoring and treatment of muscle atrophy. Therefore, this review summarizes

Cancer Cell‐Derived Large Extracellular Vesicles Promote Venous Thromboembolism by Activating NETosis Through Delivering CYBA

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major threat to cancer patients. Cancer‐derived large extracellular vesicles deliver CYBA (p22phox) to neutrophils, triggering reactive oxygen species (ROS) and citrullinated histone H3 (citH3) formation. This drives neutrophil extracellular traps formation (NETosis), elevating VTE risk.

Magnetic resonance imaging in children: common problems and possible solutions for lung and airways imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Pediatric chest MRI is challenging. High-resolution scans of the lungs and airways are compromised by long imaging times, low lung proton density and motion. Low signal is a problem of normal lung.

Self‐supervised denoising for medical imaging enhancement

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Optical microscopy is a fundamental tool of clinical imaging. AI‐driven self‐supervised denoising techniques enhance optical microscopy imaging, enabling high‐resolution long‐term tracking of in vivo and in vitro cells with minimal photodamage. This breakthrough improves clinical tools for molecular tracking, protein interaction studies, and drug ...

Fat embolism and COVID-19 infection: autopsy and post-mortem laboratory findings in SARS-CoV-2 positive patients

open access: yesBiomedical Papers
Introduction. The article is one of the very first autopsy reports worldwide, which associates COVID-19 infection and pulmonary fat embolism. Aims. To point to a crucial connection between a severe acute respiratory syndrome caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-

Promising Prodiginins Biological Activities

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Prodiginins are a large family of at least 34 pyrrolic compounds, including the well‐studied red pigment prodigiosin. Prodiginins are produced by several microorganisms displaying broad biological activities, including antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive activities.
