Prediction of exercise respiratory limitation from pulmonary function tests

open access: yesPulmonology
Background Evaluation of unexplained exercise intolerance is best resolved by cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) which enables the determination of the exercise limiting system in most cases.

Re‐Purposing Sapropterin (Kuvan) for ACTA2‐Related Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome: A Translational Mechanistic and First‐In‐Human Therapeutic Report

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...

Evaluation of recently validated non- invasive formula using basic lung functions as new screening tool for pulmonary hypertension in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients

open access: yesAnnals of Thoracic Medicine, 2009
Background: A prediction formula for mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP) using standard lung function measurement has been recently validated to screen for pulmonary hypertension (PH) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients.

Study of lung function in granite workers based on duration of exposure

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2018
Background: Stone quarry workers form a unorganized sector of industry scattered all over India. Due to these workers employed at the granite factory are exposed to different components of dust in which silica is the major one.

Pulmonary function tests in preoperative pulmonary evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine, 2004
Pulmonary function testing (PFT) has been used to evaluate the risk for postoperative complications since the 1950s. PFT including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, oximetry, and arterial blood gases has been used to assess the postoperative risk of lung resection.

Mycophenolate Mofetil Treatment Reduces the Risk of Treatment Escalation Due to Vascular Complications in Limited Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis: Emulation of a Target Trial From the Italian Rheumatology Society SPRING Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon because of the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire 8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age Among People With Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐Centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

Marked Long‐Term Improvement in Lung Function in Melanoma Differentiation–Associated Protein 5 Antibody–Positive Dermatomyositis Patients: Experience of a Single‐Center Longitudinal Cohort in North America

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation–associated protein 5 (MDA5) antibody–associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 antibody–associated DM were identified in a single‐center longitudinal cohort of 352

Rheumatologic Manifestations of Patients With Type B Insulin Resistance

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objectives of this study were to identify laboratory and clinical features associated with type B insulin resistance (TBIR), a rare condition caused by autoantibodies that inhibit the insulin receptor, most frequently occurring in the setting of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to increase awareness of this rare, life‐threatening ...
