Bigeminal Pulmonary Vein Ectopy Suppressed by Pulmonary Vein Isolation

open access: yesInternational Heart Journal, 2008
A 58-year-old man with atrial fibrillation underwent pulmonary vein (PV) isolation (PVI). Bigeminal atrial premature beats persisted from the beginning of the PVI. The cardiac recordings from a basket catheter (BC) revealed the PV ectopic origin in the distal right superior PV.

Characteristics of Phrenic Nerve Injury During Pulmonary Vein Isolation Using a 28‐mm Second‐Generation Cryoballoon and Short Freeze Strategy

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
BackgroundThe reported incidence of phrenic nerve injury (PNI) varies owing to different definitions, balloon generations, balloon size, freezing regimen, and protective maneuvers.

The adjunctive effect for left pulmonary vein isolation of vein of Marshall ethanol infusion in persistent atrial fibrillation

open access: yesEuropace, 2022
Objective This study sought to assess the effect of ethanol infusion into the vein of Marshall (EIVOM) on the acute success of left pulmonary vein (LPV) isolation in persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF).

Vena cava anomalies in thoracic surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Vena cava anomalies are a rare group of anatomical variations due to an incorrect development of the superior or inferior vena cava during fetal life.

Radiofrequency Versus Cryoballoon Catheter Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: Durability of Pulmonary Vein Isolation and Effect on Atrial Fibrillation Burden

open access: yesCirculation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, 2021
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text. Background: Recurrent paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) after catheter ablation is presumably caused by failure to achieve durable pulmonary vein isolation (PVI).

Catheter entrapment in a pulmonary vein: a unique complication of pulmonary vein isolation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Ablation strategies for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) are associated with several potential complications. During electro-anatomic mapping of the left atrium (LA) before ablation, the ablation catheter was entrapped in the right inferior ...

Characterization of circumferential antral pulmonary vein isolation areas resulting from pulsed-field catheter ablation

open access: yesEuropace, 2022
Aims The cornerstone of pulmonary vein (PV) isolation (PVI) is a wide-area circumferential ablation (WACA) resulting in an antral PVI area. Pulsed-field ablation (PFA) is a new nonthermal ‘single-shot’ PVI technique resulting in well-characterized ...

Effect of catheter ablation on quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation and its correlation with arrhythmia outcome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Objective To assess the effect of catheter ablation on atrial fibrillation (AF) symptoms and quality of life (QoL). Methods Patients with AF scheduled for ablation were recruited.

Sinus node injury during adjunctive superior vena cava isolation in a patient with triggered atrial fibrillation

open access: yesIndian Pacing and Electrophysiology Journal, 2016
Introduction: Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained heart arrhythmia. Premature beats arising from foci other than pulmonary veins have been related to its pathogenesis.

Single Ectopy-Triggering Ganglionated Plexus Ablation Without Pulmonary Vein Isolation Prevents Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2020
A 58-year-old woman with drug-refractory symptoms of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) was referred for AF ablation. A single site of ganglionated plexus triggering pulmonary vein ectopy and AF was ablated, without pulmonary vein isolation.
