Preventing atrial fibrillation by combined right isthmus ablation and cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation in patients with typical atrial flutter: PAF‐CRIOBLAF study

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2021
Background Although less common, typical atrial flutter shares similar pathophysiological roots with atrial fibrillation. Following successful cavo‐tricuspid isthmus ablation using radiofrequency, many patients, however, develop atrial fibrillation in ...

Electrophysiological evaluation of pulmonary vein isolation [PDF]

open access: yesEuropace, 2009
Electrophysiologically demonstrated complete conduction block at the level of the veno-atrial junction is preferable as the endpoint of pulmonary vein (PV) ablation rather than circumferential periostial radiofrequency delivery. Knowledge of the individual anatomy of the PVs and the left atrium (LA), appropriate positioning of circular mapping ...

Presence of non-pulmonary vein foci in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing standard ablation of pulmonary vein isolation: Clinical characteristics and long-term ablation outcome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology: Heart & Vasculature, 2021
Background The clinical characteristics of atrial fibrillation (AF) resulting from non-pulmonary vein (PV) triggers remain unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with AF caused by non-PV triggers, localization of ...

Monocyte LOXHD1 and RHOB Expression Predictive of Progressive Systemic Sclerosis–Associated Interstitial Lung Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective A leading cause of death among patients with scleroderma (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) remains challenging to prognosticate. The discovery of biomarkers that accurately determine which patients would benefit from close monitoring and aggressive therapy would be an essential clinical tool.

Pulmonary vein isolation through superior vena cava in case of interrupted inferior vena cava - case report

open access: yesCardiologia Hungarica
Pulmonary vein isolation is a primary therapeutical option for controlling atrial fibrillation, particularly in cases complicated with heart failure or previously ineffective pharmacological antiarrhythmic treatment.

Expression of mRNA for phospholipase A(2), cyclooxygenases, and lipoxygenases in cultured human umbilical vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells and in biopsies from umbilical arteries and veins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Arachidonic acid (AA) is released by phospholipase A(2) (PLA(2)) and then converted into vasoactive and inflammatory eicosanoids by cyclooxygenases (COX) and lipoxygenases (LOX).

Cryoballoon Versus High-Power, Short-Duration Radiofrequency Ablation for Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Patients With Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesCirculation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, 2021
Background: The efficacy of cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (Cryo-PVI) is equivalent to that of radiofrequency pulmonary vein isolation in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety profile of Cryo-

Fatal myocardial infarction following pulmonary vein isolation due to atrioesophageal fistula: Case report

open access: yesForensic Science International: Reports
This case report describes the death of a 73-year-old man who suffered a fatal myocardial infarction following pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Clinical and Procedural Effects of Transitioning to Contact Force Guided Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: A major innovation in atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation has been the introduction of contact force (CF) sensing catheters. Objective: To evaluate procedural and clinical effects of transitioning to CF-guided AF ablation.

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.
