Update on innovative surgical techniques for omphalectomy in foals

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Umbilical infection is a common foal disorder, prone to complications, requiring surgical excision in severe cases. Timely surgical excision is the treatment of choice in these cases, as the infected umbilicus places the foal at risk for further fatal complications, such as sepsis and septic arthritis.

Psychogenic polydipsia in dogs – a review of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Polyuria and polydipsia represent a common clinical presentation in dogs and may result from numerous disorders affecting different body systems. Compulsive water consumption is characteristic of psychogenic polydipsia, a primary polydipsia disorder rooted in neurologic, behavioural or environmental factors.

Efficacy of direct oral anticoagulant for renal infarction due to pulmonary vein stump thrombosis after left pneumonectomy

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2022
AbstractBackgroundThrombosis of the pulmonary vein stump is a common complication after a left upper lobectomy and can be a source of embolism in various organs, such as the kidneys. A renal infarction, on the other hand, is a rare and often lethal condition that is usually diagnosed postmortem.

Multimodal Deep Learning for Predicting Deep Vein Thrombosis Risk After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Clinical Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Implementing a dual‐branch architecture where ViT‐B/16 or ResNet50 processed standardized radiographs (metal artifact suppression, 512 × 512 resolution) while Clinical‐BERT encoded structured electronic records. A novel dynamic attention mechanism generated sample‐specific weights (α) for feature fusion (α·v_img + (1‐α)·v_txt), with performance ...

Prognostic Factors for Postoperative Complications. An Aggregate Protocol for 10 Observational Studies From the Danish TRIPLE‐A Cohort of 1.2 Million Surgeries

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 7, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Postoperative complications substantially increase morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. Understanding prognostic factors is essential for risk stratification, targeted prevention strategies, and development of prediction models.

Proximal ligation of the pulmonary vein stump to prevent postoperative cerebral infarction after a lobectomy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
Abstract OBJECTIVES Our goal was to assess whether proximal ligation of the pulmonary vein stump (PVS) outside the pericardium reduces the incidence of postoperative cerebral infarction (PCI) after a lobectomy.

Thrombus Formation in the Pulmonary Vein Stump after Left Upper Lobectomy: A Report of Four Cases

open access: yesAnnals of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2014
Left upper lobectomy may be followed by complications such as thrombus formation in a stump of the left superior pulmonary vein (LSPV), which may cause systemic embolization. We have encountered four such cases, which account for 3.4% of all left upper lobectomies performed at our institution.

Blood stasis may cause thrombosis in the left superior pulmonary vein stump after left upper lobectomy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2014
We previously reported that arterial infarction of vital organs after lobectomy might occur only after left upper lobectomy and be caused by thrombosis in the left superior pulmonary vein stump. We hypothesized that changes in blood flow, such as blood stasis and disturbed stagnant flow, in the left superior pulmonary vein stump cause thrombosis, and ...

The Efficacy of Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion During Thoracoscopic Epicardial AF Ablation for Improving Rhythm and Cardiac Function in Patients With Heart Failure

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 3, June 2026.
Thoracoscopic epicardial AF ablation in heart failure improved LV systolic function irrespective of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). Concomitant surgical LAAO was associated with fewer LPV reconnections without worsening postoperative diastolic function, while atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrence was similar between groups.
