TOOTH PREPARATION AND PULP DEGENERATION
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1997Conscious attention must be directed toward providing atraumatic tooth preparations for crowns, and to constructing adequate provisional restorations. If meticulous care is not taken, pulpal damage or death can occur. Patients should be warned that pulpal death and endodontic therapy can result from crown placement.

Pain and Tooth Pulp Evoked Potentials
Clinical Electroencephalography, 1992The purpose of this study was to verify whether the late components (N 140) of TPEPs were a reliable index of pain intensity. In the group with acute pain, except for higher amplitudes of the second negative wave, the plateau phenomenon has been noted.

Peptidergic nerves in human tooth pulp
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1984Abstract – Substance P‐like and enkephalin‐like immunoreactive nerve fibers were observed in the human tooth pulp. Immunoreactivity for substance P could be demonstrated in thin, beaded nerve fibers and glomerular‐type nerve structures both in the center and in more peripheral parts of the tooth pulp.

Russell bodies in the pulp of a primary tooth
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2000Russell bodies can be found in the majority of the inflamed tissues throughout the body. They have been shown to consist of accumulations of normal globulins that may burst out of the distended plasma cells that secrete them. Russell bodies have also been described in oral tissues and are believed to occur in 80% of the chronic periapical lesions.

The tooth, along with the periodontium, temporomandibular joint, larynx and pharynx, have been considered to reflect specialized or characteristic features of sensory innervation that differ from those already outlined for skin and mucosa. For example, the tooth is considered by many to be the only sensory site in the body from which the only sensation

The effect of experimental tooth intrusion on pulp and dentine
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971Abstract A study of sixty teeth from children 10 to 13 years of age reveals that marked changes may occur in the dentine and pulp as a result of tooth intrusion with continuously acting forces. The pulp reactions were most manifest in teeth in which the apical area was complete. Alterations in apical anatomy were found only in teeth in which the root

EXCITATION OF TOOTH PULP AFFERENTS WITH ELECTRICAL CURRENT
Acupuncture & Electro-Therapeutics Research, 1984Electrical excitation of tooth pulp afferents seems to be a most accurate and reproducable method to produce graded pain with minimal injury of the tissues. Besides electrical current only thermal stimulation may activate pulp nerves of an intact tooth, but this method lacks the precision of the electrical stimulation and bears more risk of injury ...

Jaw depression elicited by tooth pulp stimulation
Experimental Neurology, 1970Abstract Stimulation of tooth pulpal nerves in both anesthetized and alert cats elicited a vigorous jaw depression reflex. The threshold for jaw depression in the chronic preparation remained stable for as long as 4 months. Disappearance of the jaw depression response following endodontic therapy indicated that the response was not caused by spread ...

Human pulp responses to in-office tooth bleaching
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2010To evaluate and compare the responses of human incisor and premolar pulps after bleaching.A bleaching agent with 38% hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) was applied on the buccal surface of 10 sound lower teeth (G1: 6 premolars; G2: 4 incisors) for 45 minutes.

Transmedian innervation of canine tooth pulp in cats
Experimental Neurology, 1974Abstract The present study was designed to determine the extent to which the pulpal nerves of teeth in the cat receive a bilateral innervation from first order trigeminal afferent fibers. Bipolar electrodes were implanted into the predentin of upper and lower canine and premolar teeth on both sides of the jaw and into the left and right trigeminal ...
