Fetal Brain Abnormalities in Trisomy 21 and Associated Neurodevelopmental Outcome: Key Factors to Identify Differences in Neurodevelopmental Outcome?

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 46, Issue 11, Page 1802-1814, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Trisomy 21 (T21) is associated with various neurological impairments. However, the mechanisms of fetal brain development in T21 and their impact on neurodevelopmental outcomes remain unclear, limiting prenatal counseling. Therefore, this study aims to assess neuropathological changes in fetuses with T21 and the associated ...

Reduction in Right Ventricular Stroke Work Index After Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty is Associated With Long‐Term Prognosis in Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, Volume 16, Issue 4, October 2026.
In 38 patients with CTEPH undergoing BPA, a smaller relative reduction in RVSWI was associated with subsequent adverse clinical events. This retrospective study suggests potential prognostic value, but the findings are exploratory and require external validation.

Postpartum anthropometric and cardiovascular profile following hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: 12‐month follow‐up

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 527-539, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives To compare anthropometric and cardiovascular parameters at 6–12 weeks postpartum among women classified at first‐trimester screening as high risk for pre‐eclampsia (PE) who subsequently developed hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), those classified as high risk who did not develop HDP and those classified as low risk for PE ...

Determinants of preterm pre‐eclampsia following low‐dose aspirin prophylaxis: evidence from stepped‐wedge cluster randomized trial in Asia

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 492-503, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify potential risk factors – among maternal factors, pre‐eclampsia (PE)‐specific biomarkers and estimated risks derived from the first‐trimester Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) triple test – that are associated with the subsequent development of preterm PE, and to evaluate predictors of any‐onset PE using time‐to‐event ...

Improving Clinical Outcomes Related to Preeclampsia: Real‐World Impacts of Implementation of a Redesigned Approach to Antenatal Care—The Initial Maternity Assessment and Planning (IMAP) Service

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Volume 66, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Preeclampsia is a major contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity. First‐trimester predictive models for preterm preeclampsia have better efficacy than history‐based screening for prevention of this adverse pregnancy outcome.

Longitudinal Doppler assessment and perinatal outcomes in early‐set intrauterine growth restriction fetuses

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 10, Page 1965-1973, October 2026.
In early‐onset fetal growth restriction requiring delivery before 30 weeks, shorter intervals to abnormal ductus venosus and umbilical artery Doppler findings are associated with severe morbidity and mortality, highlighting the prognostic value of longitudinal Doppler assessment.

National Practice Patterns of VA ECMO and Left Ventricular Mechanical Unloading for Cardiogenic Shock

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 10, Page 1443-1452, October 2026.
Consensus surrounding the management of VA ECMO and left ventricular mechanical unloading for cardiogenic shock (CS) is limited. We thus conducted a national survey of practice patterns in the treatment of CS to characterize such variability, finding large heterogeneity in CS diagnosis, VA ECMO initiation, and LVMU strategies.

An Optimized Multi‐Stage Drainage Cannula Design for Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 10, Page 1372-1383, October 2026.
This study utilized an extensive optimization involving n = 540 design of experiments to produce a superior drainage cannula design. Compared to the clinically used Maquet model, our optimized design demonstrated reduced blood stagnation volumes, increased cannula tip velocities, and higher upper body drainage, potentially minimizing risk of thrombosis
