Pulse Code Modulation

2020
A speech signal has a total duration of 10 s. It is sampled at a rate of 8 kHz and then encoded. The \(\text{ SNR}_Q\) must be greater than 40 dB. Calculate the minimum storage capacity required to accommodate this digitized speech signal.

Optical pulse code modulator

1966 International Electron Devices Meeting, 1966
An optical mcdulator has been developed for pulse code modulation transmission systems. This modulator uses the electro-optic effect in lithium tantalate (LiTaO 3 ) and requires less than ten milliwatts drive power to a transistor pulse amplifier which supplies the drive voltage for the lithium tantalate.

Pulse Code Modulation

1984
To describe and analyse the process of uniform quantization. To describe the principle of pulse code modulation (PCM) as a combination of quantizing, sampling and pulse encoding. To assess analytically the noise performance of a PCM system. To note briefly the merits of non-uniform quantization or companding for encoding certain signals,

Pulse code modulation

1993
One of the problems associated with the transmission of speech signals is that, as the distance over which the signal is transmitted is increased, so does the noise induced into the transmission circuit. Unfortunately, since the introduction of telephony just over a century ago, the number of sources of electro-magnetic noise have also increased ...

History of pulse code modulation

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1979
The paper describes the factors leading to the invention of p.c.m., and the form first devised by A.H. Reeves. It outlines the development of early p.c.m. telephone systems up to about 1960, with emphasis on developments of which the author has personal experience.

Pulse coded modulation (PCM)

1996
Pulse coded modulation involves analogue data being transmitted as digital signals. The digital form is then transmitted over the transmission media. At the receiver the digital code converts back into an analogue form. Digital signals are generally less affected by noise and thus provide a more reliable method of transmitting data.

Pulse-Code-Modulation und Zeitmultiplextechnik

1999

Pulse Code Modulation (PCM)

2015
Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), also known as baseband transmission, converts the input analog signal into digital format and transmits over a digital communication channel. It involves: Band limiting the input analog signal Sampling Quantization A to D conversion Signal ...

Principles of Pulse Code Modulation

1951
Publisher Summary Pulse code modulation (PCM) involves important principles, such as sampling, quantizing, encoding, pulse shaping, and decoding. This chapter discusses the most advanced PCM equipment developed by Bell Telephone Laboratories. It describes the basic principles of PCM, namely one channel and video transmission.
