By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

Genetic variation in the C-reactive protein gene and arterial stiffness: The Rotterdam Study
Background and aim: Arterial stiffness increases with age and has been found to predict cardiovascular disease. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an inflammation marker and has been found to be associated with arterial stiffness and risk of cardiovascular ...

Revealing sub-μm inhomogeneities and μm-scale texture in H2O ice at Megabar pressures via sound velocity measurements by time-domain Brillouin scattering [PDF]
Time-domain Brillouin scattering technique, also known as picosecond ultrasonic interferometry, which provides opportunity to monitor propagation of nanometers to sub-micrometers length coherent acoustic pulses in the samples of sub-micrometers to tens of micrometers dimensions, was applied to depth-profiling of polycrystalline aggregate of ice ...

Facile and rapid synthesis of highly luminescent nanoparticles via Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquid [PDF]
This paper demonstrates the usefulness of pulsed laser ablation in liquids as a fast screening synthesis method able to prepare even complex compositions at the nanoscale. Nanoparticles of Y2O3:Eu3+, Lu2O2S: Eu3+, Gd2SiO5:Ce3+ and Lu3TaO7:Gd3+,Tb3+ are successfully synthesized by pulsed laser ablation in liquids.

Machine stability and dosimetry for ultra‐high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy human clinical protocol
Abstract Background The FLASH effect, induced by ultra‐high dose rate (UHDR) irradiations, offers the potential to spare normal tissue while effectively treating tumors. It is important to achieve precise and accurate dose delivery and to establish reliable detector systems, particularly for clinical trials needed to help the clinical transfer of FLASH‐

How to detect a positive response to a fluid bolus when cardiac output is not measured?
Background Volume expansion is aimed at increasing cardiac output (CO), but this variable is not always directly measured. We assessed the ability of changes in arterial pressure, pulse pressure variation (PPV) and heart rate (HR) or of a combination of ...

Uncertainty quantification of inflow boundary condition and proximal arterial stiffness coupled effect on pulse wave propagation in a vascular network [PDF]
SUMMARY This work aims at quantifying the effect of inherent uncertainties from cardiac output on the sensitivity of a human compliant arterial network response based on stochastic simulations of a reduced-order pulse wave propagation model. A simple pulsatile output form is utilized to reproduce the most relevant cardiac features with a minimum number
