Pulse wave velocity (PWV) reflects arterial stiffness. PWV correlates with other markers reflecting the severity of atherosclerosis such as the findings of ultrasound examination of carotid artery. In addition, several studies demonstrated that increased PWV is a predictor of future cardiovascular events in patients with either hypertension or diabetes

Wave Travel and Pulse Wave Velocity
2018Waves generated by the heart travel down the aorta and major conduit arteries. These waves are pressure waves, flow or velocity waves or diameter waves. The ratio of the distance Δx, and the time it takes for the foot of the wave to travel over this distance, Δt, gives the wave speed or pulse wave velocity, PWV=Δx/Δt.

Wave collapse and optical-pulse compression
Physical Review A, 1993The past several decades of development of nonlinear optics clearly demonstrated an important role playing by universal nonlinear models. Simply formulated, but, at the same time, rich in content, the models such as the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the sine-Gordon equation, the system describing three-wave resonant interaction, and others occur in a

Four-wave mixing with femtosecond pulses
Physica Scripta, 2009The recent development of noncollinear optical parametric amplifiers (NOPAs) has equipped many laboratories with widely tunable, spectrally broad ultrashort laser pulses with a duration of 15-30 fs. The present work deals with sub-20 fs pulsed degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) on high-frequency vibrational levels in all-trans-beta-carotene.

Pulse Wave Velocity and Pulse Wave Analysis in Experimental Animals
2012Until a few years ago, pulse wave velocity in experimental animals (mice, rats, rabbits, etc.) could only be measured by invasive methods. The carotid or femoral artery was surgically isolated and catheterized to assess intra-arterial pressure. The carotid and femoral signals were measured simultaneously, and the pulse wave transit time was then ...
