Pulsed eddy current thermography: system development and evaluation

Insight - Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring, 2010
There is a need for fast and efficient techniques to inspect engineering structures and complex components such as aircraft turbine blades to identify potential sites of failure. Pulsed eddy current (PEC) thermography is a new inspection technique which allows the user to capture the eddy current distribution in a component or structure using infrared ...

Pulsed Eddy-Current Nondestructive Testing of Ferromagnetic Tubes

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2004
In sinusoidal eddy current nondestructive testing (NDT) of thick ferromagnetic tubes, wall thickness is measured with the coils displaced for 2-3 tube diameters (remote field eddy current technique). The tube inner diameter is measured at higher frequency with another pair of coils displaced for around 1 tube diameter (electrical caliper).

Eddy currents in pulsed field measurements

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2002
Abstract The eddy-current magnetization of spherical and cylindrical samples of technical Cu and Al were measured in a pulsed field magnetometer using different pulse durations τ =9.1 and 15.7 ms. Good agreement between the measured eddy-current moment as a function of the applied field with that calculated by a finite element program was found.

Effects of the wire mesh on pulsed eddy current detection of corrosion under insulation

Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation, 2022
Pulsed eddy current (PEC) technique has been used to detect corrosion under insulation (CUI) for decades, but whether and how the wire mesh laid in the insulation layer affects the detection remains ambiguous.

Pulsed Eddy Current Thermography and Applications

2011
In this paper we report on the application of the pulsed eddy current thermography inspection technique to the detection and quantification of defects in a variety of materials. After introducing the appropriate modelling and simulation techniques an overview of a typical PEC thermography system setup is provided.

Analytical Method of Probe Footprint Based on Equivalent Model of Pulsed Eddy Current Field

IEEE transactions on magnetics, 2022
In the pulsed eddy current testing for the local wall-thinning corrosion of ferromagnetic components, it is significative to accurately calculate the effective coverage area of the probe for analyzing the spatial resolution of corrosion detection.

Thickness Measurement and Surface-Defect Detection for Metal Plate Using Pulsed Eddy Current Testing and Optimized Res2Net Network

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement
Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing is a nondestructive testing (NDT) method, which is highly suitable for thickness measurement and sub-surface-defect detection. In this article, PEC testing is employed to simultaneously detect defect and sample thickness.
