Pulsed thermography for the NDT of honeycomb composite

Fifth Symposium on Novel Optoelectronic Detection Technology and Application, 2019
Honeycomb sandwich Composite has wide applications in manufacture, such as aircraft, automobile, rail transit, and so on, due to its special advantages. However, defects always exist in the honeycomb composite during manufacturing and in-service period, liquid ingress and debondings are the most typical defects.

Square pulse thermography in frequency domain

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
In this paper a new approach for quantitative non-destructive testing (NDT) of near-surface structures in civil engineering (CE) with active thermography is presented. It adopts the method known as pulsed phase thermography (PPT) for the special requirements of NDT-CE and was developed in a German research project of the Federal Institute for Materials

A quantitative analysis of pulsed video thermography

NDT & E International, 1991
Abstract The defect imaging capability of a pulsed video thermography system is assessed by detailed quantitative analysis of its performance in imaging a set of well characterized artificial defects in a steel test-piece. An analytical model is presented which provides an understanding of the imaging process.

Defect Characterization Using Pulsed Thermography

Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 2012
Infrared Thermography is one of the advanced NDE methods that is becoming attractive due to its ability to inspect non invasively large areas in short times and provide full field images in a non contact nature. While initially the method started as a qualitative technique for defect detection alone, with the advent of lock in and pulsed techniques ...

Decay time analysis in pulse thermography

The European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2008
Pulse Thermography is being used since several years for rapid detection of subsurface defects. This method is well suited for industrial applications because no physical contact to the test object is needed. Within a short measurement time robust results are obtained. Besides phase evaluation the decay time of surface temperature can be analyzed.

Inspection of aerospace materials by pulsed thermography, lock-in thermography, and vibrothermography: a comparative study

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
Inspection of aerospace components has always been a challenge. Infrared thermography has demonstrated to be a useful tool for this matter. In this paper, we offer a comparative study involving three active techniques: pulsed thermography, lock-in thermography and vibrothermography.

Pulsed phased thermography with the wavelet transform

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000
Pulsed thermography (PT) is a well established approach in nondestructive evaluation of materials: a short thermal perturbation stimulates the specimen of interest and the subsequent surface temperature evolution reveals specimen subsurface structure and thermal properties.

Possible applications of pulse phase thermography

1996
Recently, the fundamental of the ''pulse phase thermography'' approach were described. As it is recalled, this approach combine somehow the well-known ''pulse thermography'' and the ''modulated thermography'' for which specimens are submitted to periodical excitation. Some advantages of this novel approach were demonstrated as well.
