Pulse Oximetry

Chest, 1989
The pulse oximeter, a widely used noninvasive monitor of arterial oxygen saturation, has numerous applications in anesthesiology and critical care. Although pulse oximetry is considered sufficiently accurate for many clinical purposes, there are significant limitations on the accuracy and availability of pulse oximetry data.

Pulse oximetry

Pediatric Emergency Care, 1987
The pulse oximeter provides a noninvasive, continuous, and generally valid measure of SaO2. Armed with a basic understanding of its operating principles and limitations, and the proper interpretation of SaO2, the emergency physician will find the pulse oximeter to be a useful instrument for the detection of hypoxia in infants and children.

Corrigan’s Pulse and Quincke’s Pulse

New England Journal of Medicine, 2018
Corrigan’s Pulse and Quincke’s Pulse A 58-year-old man with a bioprosthetic aortic valve presented with exertional dyspnea. Videos show rapidly declining pulsation of the right carotid artery and capillary pulsation of the index finger, thumb, and nail bed, findings suggestive of severe aortic regurgitation.

Divided-pulse amplification of ultrashort pulses

Optics Letters, 2006
We propose and demonstrate a new approach, to the best of our knowledge, for avoiding nonlinear effects in the amplification of ultrashort optical pulses. The initial pulse is divided longitudinally into a sequence of lower-energy pulses that are otherwise identical to the original, except for the polarization.

Localization Aftereffects with Pulse-Tone and Pulse-Pulse Stimuli

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1965
When a pulse is presented from one position in space near in time to the beginning of a tone burst coming from another position in space, the tone burst may be perceived to be displaced toward the pulse. Measurements of displacement effects are given for various angles of separation of sources and duration of tone. A related type of displacement effect

Cooperative pulses

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2010
We introduce the concept of cooperative (COOP) pulses which are designed to compensate each other's imperfections. In multi-scan experiments, COOP pulses can cancel undesired signal contributions, complementing and generalizing phase cycles. COOP pulses can be efficiently optimized using an extended version of the optimal-control-based gradient ascent ...
