Widely tunable two-colour seeded free-electron laser source for resonant-pump resonant-probe magnetic scattering

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Two-colour X-ray free electron laser is a powerful tool for pump–probe measurements, but currently constrained by limited tunability. Here, Ferrari et al.

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Imaging the Renner-Teller effect using laser-induced electron diffraction

open access: yes, 2019
Structural information on electronically excited neutral molecules can be indirectly retrieved, largely through pump-probe and rotational spectroscopy measurements with the aid of calculations.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Ultrafast carrier relaxation in GaN, In_(0.05)Ga_(0.95)N and an In_(0.05)Ga_(0.95)/In_(0.15)Ga_(0.85)N Multiple Quantum Well

open access: yes, 2002
Room temperature, wavelength non-degenerate ultrafast pump/probe measurements were performed on GaN and InGaN epilayers and an InGaN multiple quantum well structure. Carrier relaxation dynamics were investigated as a function of excitation wavelength and

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Pump-Probe Ghost Imaging with SASE FELs

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2019
In this paper, we propose a new approach to measuring ultrafast dynamics with free-electron lasers (FELs). Ultrafast experiments are among the most promising avenues of research at x-ray FELs, with the potential to reveal the chemical dynamics of charge ...

Variable repetition frequency asynchronous optical sampling method without a feedback loop

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
The ultrafast pump–probe measurement represents a key technique to study fs–ps dynamics. The asynchronous optical sampling (ASOPS) method realizes fast and long time-range measurement with high time resolution using different repetition frequency pump ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Interpreting pulse-shape effects in pump-probe spectroscopies

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2018
The effect of the pulse-shape on pump-probe spectroscopies is examined for the simplest model of noninteracting fermions on an infinite-dimensional hypercubic lattice.
