Cerebral oxygenation and skeletal muscle responses to time trial, maximal oxygen uptake and time to exhaustion exercise

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated cerebral and neuromuscular responses to three exercise models: time trial (TT), maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O2max${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_2}{\mathrm{max}}}}$) and time to exhaustion (TTE). Fourteen participants completed the tests in the following order: V̇O2max${{\dot{V}}_{{{{\mathrm{O}}}_2}{\mathrm{max}}}}$, TT and ...

A Review of the Applications and Challenges of Pulsed Electric Fields in Fish Ecological Protection

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The use of pulsed electric fields (PEF) to regulate fish swimming patterns, especially during migratory channel restoration in dammed rivers, faces significant operational challenges. These challenges can generally be attributed to the multifaceted nature of fish behaviour and limitations in research on physical interception methods.

Thermal Analysis of Phase Change Material Based Energy Storage Module With Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces

open access: yesEnergy Storage, Volume 8, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The thermal performance of two triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) thermal Energy Storage modules, Diamond and Primitive, was investigated using computational fluid dynamics. The melting and solidification behaviors, as well as the charging and discharging characteristics, of the TPMS Energy Storage units were studied for various flow rates.

Pump as Turbine - Symmetry Prediction Method for Pump as Turbine Characteristics

open access: yes, 2018
As a cheap and available source of renewable energy, regular centrifugal pumps may be run in reverse to act as hydro turbines. Pumps as turbines (PAT) are especially relevant for isolated rural areas, or in developing countries, where efficiency is not necessarily the highest priority.

Tinkering Towards Sustainability: Bundling Innovations to Electrify the Fossil‐Dependent Process Industry

open access: yesCreativity and Innovation Management, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 356-373, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Sustainability transitions, such as electrifying the process industry, require a bundle of related innovations to make meaningful progress. Drawing on literature on innovation through tinkering, that is, adaptive, typically small‐scale experimentation with various forms of innovation, and applying a micropolitical perspective, this qualitative

Influence of Chronotype on Cycling Performance in Simulated 20‐km Time Trials—A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 3, June 2026.
Evening‐type athletes show improved cycling performance later in the day, whilst morning types peak earlier. These differences appear linked to variations in mental readiness and sleepiness, highlighting the importance of considering chronotype in performance planning.
