Performance of vertical-axis pumps as turbines
Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2018ABSTRACTHydropower generation in water distribution networks (WDNs) is an attractive topic in the field of management of water systems. Pumps as turbines (PATs) allow coupling pressure control with power generation. Although PATs have several advantages over traditional turbines, theoretical and experimental studies are still required to overcome the ...

Effects of impeller trimming influencing pump as turbine
Computers & Fluids, 2012Abstract Pump manufactures normally do not provide performance curves of their pumps working as turbines, especially performance curves of trimmed impellers. Impeller trimming is necessary to adapt to a certain operating condition. Therefore, establishing the correlation of PAT’s performance curve and impeller trims is essential.

Centrifugal Pumps Used as Hydraulic Turbines
Journal of Engineering for Power, 1961Centrifugal pumps may be used to advantage as small hydraulic turbines where low initial cost is imperative. Pump and turbine characteristics are presented for typical units and a procedure for pump selection is discussed.

Hysteresis Characteristics of Francis Pump-Turbines When Operated as Turbine
Journal of Basic Engineering, 1971The results obtained through experiments on models concerning the phenomena of hysteresis characteristics of Francis pump-turbines generated when operated as turbine are described in the present report. It has made clear the fact that the condition for generating the phenomena is regulated by cavitation factor and guidevane openings and affected by the

Improvement of Hysteresis Characteristics of Francis Pump-Turbines When Operated as Turbine
Journal of Basic Engineering, 1972The turbine hysteresis characteristics in Francis pump-turbines when operated as turbine were reported in the previous paper [1]. In the present report the characteristics of inner flow of runners will be observed and at the same time the effect given by the entrance angle of runner vanes and the sweepback at the entrance of runner vanes to the ...

PUMP AS TURBINE (PAT) IN INTERMITTENT DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS
2012A hydraulic model was performed in order to evaluate potential energy recovery resulting by the use of centrifugal pump as turbines (PAT) in the water distribution network characterized by the presence of private tanks. The model integrates the Enhanced Global Gradient Algorithm (EGGA) (Todini [1], Giustolisi et al.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Centrifugal Pumps As Turbines
2018Installation of Pumps As Turbines (PATs) in Water Distribution Networks (WDNs) is a relevant topic in the field of innovative management of WDNs. In case of excess head over a WDN, PATs can be used for both pressure regulation and hydropower generation.

Flow Configurations in Centrifugal Pumps Used as Turbines
1998Direct and reverse operation of hydraulic machines can be interrelated by means of a theoretical expression that is instrumental in the prediction of the turbine H-Q values from pump performance curves. Tests have been carried out on four machine configurations in order to verify the validity of the procedure.
