Pupillary light reflex in borderline diabetes mellitus

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 1989
It is well known that in diabetes mellitus the early phase insulin release response to glucose becomes blunted. Besides, autonomic neuropathy develops frequently. The autonomic nerve function is related to insulin release in normal subjects. Therefore, in the present study the autonomic function was investigated in different degrees of the early phase ...

The influence of iris color on the pupillary light reflex

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1998
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of iris color on the pupillary light reflex (PLR) in normal healthy volunteers.Pupil perimetry was performed on 50 healthy volunteers with the Octopus 1-2-3 automated perimeter. Within the 30-deg visual field, 33 test locations were investigated four times. Stimulus parameters were Goldmann size V (1.

Adrenergic Mechanisms in the Pupillary Light‐Reflex Path

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1964
AbstractOn the basis of the known effects of reserpine on the eye, the presence of monoaminergic mechanisms in the light‐reflex path of the rat was studied with the use of a fluorescence method for the localization of catecholamines and 5‐hydroxytryptamine at the cellular level.

[Pupillometry as a method for monitoring of pupillary light reflex in ICU patients].

Voprosy neirokhirurgii imeni N N Burdenko, 2021
This review is devoted to the modern method of monitoring of pupil diameter and reactivity in patients with acute brain injury. The authors present complete data on diagnostic and prognostic capabilities of automated infrared pupillometry, which should ...

Diurnal Modulation of Pupillary Light Reflex

Light & Engineering, 2023
Pupillary light reflex is mediated by intrinsic photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) and the midbrain in human brain. The cells ipRGCs are highly sensitive to blue light (~ 480 nm). In this study, we evaluated diurnal changes in chromatic sensitivity of ipRGCs by measuring pupillary light reflex.

The neuronal pathway subserving the pupillary light reflex

Brain Research, 1978
The pupillary light reflex was investigated using electrical stimulation along the pathway and recording in the short ciliary nerves. The discharge of single units in the ciliary ganglion was compared during diffuse light stimuli and electrical stimuli.

The cerebellar control of the pupillary light reflex in the cat

Brain Research, 1977
The effect of cerebellar lesions upon the pupillary light reflex was examined in anesthetized cats. The pupillary response elicited by a step and sinusoidally modulated light stimulus was used. In acute cerebellectomized cats, the high frequency cutoff of the frequency response of the pupillary reflex was moved to a lower level after cerebellar lesions.

Pupillary light reflex and circadian synchronization in the elderly

PsyCh Journal, 2017
AbstractMost elderly lack a synchronized circadian rhythm and often cannot benefit from light therapy. Non‐visual effects of light are mediated through intrinsic photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs). With chromatic pupillometry, the functionality of ipRGCs and their functional circuit in the brain can be tested.

Critical Duration for the Pupillary Light Reflex*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1969
Light reflexes of the eye pupil are measured with an infrared scanning pupillometer in response to a 74-deg field. At threshold, the pupillary system responds to stimulus energy for short flashes and stimulus magnitude for long flashes. On a plot of log-flash magnitude vs log-flash duration, the intersection of the constant-energy asymptote and the ...

The pathway controlling the pupillary light reflex in urodeles

Experimental Brain Research, 1994
Although the photomechanical response of the iris in amphibians has been characterized, the central pathway of reflex control is unknown. We investigated this pathway by electrophysiological and anatomical techniques in urodeles. Sustained responding neurons in the pretectum were localized and characterized.
