Quantization Error in Clinical Pure-Tone Audiometry [PDF]
The current clinical procedure for pure-tone audiometry was analysed for statistical measurement errors. Theoretically, the root-mean-square (RMS) error in a single threshold measurement is always greater than the standard deviation (SD) of measured intra-individual test-retest differences, divided by the square root of two.

Pure Tone Audiometry in Older People
British Journal of Audiology, 1975Hearing loss measured by pure-tone audiometry is described for the better ear, using the median with 95% confidence limits, in seven sound frequencies in a random sample of older people (215 men and 272 women). Both sexes showed increases in hearing loss in each frequency with increasing age. Hearing loss was greater in women at frequencies of 1000 c.p.
