Pure-Tone Audiometry and Masking

International Journal of Audiology, 2011
Pure-Tone Audiometry and Masking is an excellent resource and reference for the intermediate student, clinicians, and instructors.

Association between cardiovascular health and hearing function: pure-tone and distortion product otoacoustic emission measures.

American Journal of Audiology, 2010
PURPOSE A reduction in hearing sensitivity is often considered to be a normal age-related change. Recent studies have revisited prior ways of thinking about sensory changes over time, uncovering health variables other than age that play a significant ...

Recognition and detection of pure tone

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1977
We report measurements of the relation between the detection and recognition of sinusoids of different frequencies. The motivation for these measurements was a theorem presented by S.J. Starr, C.E. Metz, L.B. Lusted, and D.J. Goodenough [Radiology 116 533–538 (1975)] The theorem related recognition performance to a transform of the area under the ...

BINAURAL LOCALIZATION OF PURE TONES

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1930
Pure tones of frequency 256 cycles per second were presented binaurally to eight different observers, the phase difference and amplitude ratio of the acoustical pressures at the two ears being known and adjustable. The observers were asked to state the direction and distance of the apparent source of sound.

Pure Tone Audiometry in Noise with Auraldomes

International Journal of Audiology, 1975
Pure tone thresholds were obtained using a TDH-39 driver mounted in a standard (MX-41/AR) cushion and an Auraldome (AR-100-R) circumaural enclosure. Thresholds were recorded in quiet and in the presence of broad band sound field noise at 50, 60, and 70 dB SPL.

Absolute pitch and pure tone identification

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1984
In a partial replication of an experiment reported in this Journal [Lockhead and Byrd, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 70, 387–389 (1981)] possessors of absolute pitch were tested for pitch identification of sine tone stimuli. Performance was far from pefect, but considerably better than the results previously reported.

Use of the Pure Tone Audiometer

1980
Whereas previously the use of the pure tone audiometer was limited to very specialized departments and clinics, more and more people are now using them. For example, in London selected school nurses are trained in its use and provided with portable audiometers which they take to schools to do sweep tests.

Temporal integration of pure tones in the cat

Hearing Research, 1983
A behavioral method for assessing auditory threshold in cats using food reward conditioning is described. The method requires that the cat press its nose against a touch panel in order to receive a stimulus and that it remove its nose when the stimulus is detected. Behavioral thresholds for pure tone stimuli of various durations are described for three

Individual differences in pure-tone localization

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1976
The range of abilities of 85 subjects in localizing a 1-kHz pure tone in the horizontal plane is examined. Findings show that there is considerable variability in performance (?=47%, s=13), and that one subject performed at a markedly superior level (85% correct) to other subjects.
