Quali-quantitative considerations on low-flow well purging and sampling

open access: yesAcque Sotterranee - Italian Journal of Groundwater, 2021
This article deals with both the main advantages and issues related to groundwater purging and sampling that are usually carried out through the so-called low-flow methodology or with the method based on the purging of 3-5 well volumes, which is still widely used in environmental monitoring.

Reduced complexity models for water management and anode purge scheduling in DEA operation of PEMFCs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this work, the dynamic behavior of Fuel Cell operation under Dead-Ended Anode conditions is shown. A DEA can be fed with dry hydrogen, since water crossing through the membrane is sufficient to humidify the fuel.

Novel high-pressure turbine purge control features for increased stage efficiency

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2017
Rim seals throttle flow and have shown to impact the aerodynamic performance of gas turbines. The results of an experimental investigation of a rim seal exit geometry variation and its impact on the high-pressure turbine flow field are presented.

Computational Predictions of Velocity Ratio and Ejection Angle on Purge Flow in a Linear Turbine Cascade with Upstream Disturbance

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2020
Secondary air bled from the compressor which bypasses the combustion chamber is used to seal the turbine components from incoming hot gas. Interaction of this secondary air or purge flow with the mainstream can alter the flow characteristics of turbine ...

Pressure Bifurcation Phenomenon on Supersonic Blowing Trailing Edges

open access: yes, 2018
Turbine blades operating in transonic-supersonic regime develop a complex shock wave system at the trailing edge, a phenomenon that leads to unfavorable pressure perturbations downstream and can interact with other turbine stages. Understanding the fluid

Hydraulic Conductivity Estimation Using Low-Flow Purging Data Elaboration in Contaminated Sites [PDF]

open access: yesWater, 2020
Hydrogeological characterization is required when investigating contaminated sites, and hydraulic conductivity is an important parameter that needs to be estimated. Before groundwater sampling, well water level values are measured during low-flow purging to check the correct driving of the activity.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

A percolation theory-based approach for analyzing fluid flow mechanism in blanket pebble beds

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
Blanket pebble beds consist of numerous small-diameter particles, posing significant challenges for traditional simulation methods in terms of modeling accuracy and computational efficiency.

Design of a unit to produce hot distilled water for the same power consumption as a water heater [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Unit recovers 97% of water contained in pretreated waste water. Some factors are: cleansing agent prevents fouling of heat transfer surface by highly concentrated waste; absence of dynamic seals reduces required purge gas flow rate; and recycle loop ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...
