Assessing plant water status: Part 1 – Classical methods

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract As a result of the changing climate, water scarcity poses a significant threat to crop and pasture production. Although soil water content can indicate drought, its measurements often provide limited spatial resolution and are weakly correlated with plant water status, producing misleading drought assessments.

PERFORMANCE OF PV ARRAYS WITH BIFACIAL PV MODULES INSTALLED IN EAST-WEST STRUCTURES FOR RELIABLE IRRIGATION APPLICATIONS

open access: yes, 2023
Bifacial PV technology contributes to increasing energy production in PV facilities compared with monofacial PV modules, using the same occupied surface. Applications such as PV pumping for irrigation can also take advantage of using bifacial PV modules if the design of the PV system is adapted.

Synergy‐based crop suitability assessment for agrivoltaics: An easy‐to‐use traffic‐light framework for temperate climates

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change and the growing demand for renewable energy are putting increasing pressure on land, as food production and solar power generation often compete for the same areas. In this study, we assessed which temperate‐region crops are best suited for agrivoltaics, a technology combining farming and solar electricity production on the same land. We

How does leaf age affect performance? A comparative study of essential oils from young and mature Eucalyptus globulus leaves in crop protection

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Leaf age influences metabolomic profiling but not bioactivity of Eucalyptus globulus essential oils. Leaf age affects volatile levels of young and adult E. globulus oils, but not their bioactivity. Young leaf essential oil had higher contents of α‐ and β‐pinene. AEEO had higher levels of 1,8‐cineole and trans‐pinocarveol.
