This study evaluated biochars from co‐pyrolysis of sewage sludge and cashew residues on physical quality of a degraded loamy sand soil. SPB applied at 20 Mg ha−1 reduced bulk density by 7.74%, whereas most porosity attributes were driven by soil reconsolidation rather than biochar. Aggregate stability varied with biochar type, with SPB promoting larger

Nano-layers, metallic foams and emulsions (PVC-R Visiting Professor Lecture Series)
Professor George Kaptay (BAY-NANO Research Institute, University of Miskolc, Hungary) describes the different work he has been conducting over the past few years. From the field of interfacial phenomena he will be talking on the formation of a nano-layer

Reaction Rate Coefficients and Adduct Formation in the Cl Atom + (E)‐CF3CF2CH=CHCF2CF3 Reaction
ABSTRACT In this work, rate coefficients for the Cl‐atom + (E)‐CF3CF2CH═CHCF2CF3 (HFO‐153‐10mczz, F22E) gas‐phase reaction were measured as a function of temperature and pressure, k(243–323 K, 50–300 Torr), using a pulsed laser photolysis‐resonance fluorescence (PLP‐RF) technique.

Software Engineering in the 21st Century (PVC-R Visiting Professor Lecture Series)
The term Software Engineering (SE) was coined at a NATO conference in 1968 in a somewhat provocative sense. Shouldn't it be possible to build software in the way one builds bridges and houses, using sound and proven design and construction techniques as ...

ABSTRACT Soil degradation compromises ecosystem functioning. Biochar, a carbon‐rich amendment, has gained attention as a promising strategy to enhance soil structure and restore microbial balance. This study investigated the effects of two biochars, cashew bagasse biochar (CBB) and a co‐pyrolyzed biochar produced from sewage sludge and cashew pruning ...

Politicians and commentators frequently frame contemporary events by analogies to the past: Waterloo, Munich, Hitler, the Great Depression, etc. Historians, by contrast, often show why such analogies are misleading, how the politicians got it wrong ...

Abstract Particles sinking from the surface to the deep ocean play a key role in the biological carbon pump, whose efficiency depends partly on sinking velocities. Over the last decade, in situ imaging has enabled critical advances in our understanding of particle dynamics in the ocean.

Bed‐level tools for monitoring erosion and accretion patterns: Flume validation and field testing
Abstract Monitoring short‐term changes in surface sediment elevation is fundamental to understanding erosion, transport, and deposition dynamics in shallow coastal environments. However, commonly used field approaches, such as horizontal markers, sediment erosion tables, subsurface sediment plates, or erosion pins, are not always cross‐validated under ...
