Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the third one after polyethylene and polypropylene in the production demand. It intends to grow further, causing an increase in the risk of health and ecological problems due to environmental accumulation and incineration. In the present study, we determined the biodegradative abilities of marine bacteria for PVC.

Diffusion of Butylated Hydroxy Toluol (BHT) in PVC Films

Abstract The diffusion coefficient of butylated hydroxy toluol (BHT) in solvent casted PVC films from tetrahydrofurane (THF) was studied by UV spectroscopy. Diffusion coefficient of BHT in PVC at 140, 160 and 180°C were determined as 1.0 × 10−12 3.0 × 10−12 and 6.0 × 10−12 m2/s. The activation energy of diffusion (Ea) was 66 kj/mol.

Electron Transport Properties of Cu-Doped PVC Films

DC conductivity, ac conductivity, dielectric relaxation, and thermally stimulated discharge (TSD) current measurements are made on Cu-doped PVC films as a function of Cu concentration up to 12%. The dc conductivity of doped films increases by several orders up to a concentration of 4% and thereafter changes little for higher concentrations.
