Diamond and Related Materials, 1993
Abstract Silicon carbide belongs to the ultrahard materials as well as diamond and diamond-like coatings. These materials are interesting because of their properties such as low friction coefficient, wear resistance and hardness. In comparison with diamond and diamond-like coatings SiC shows better thermal stability.

PVD coatings for diecasting moulds
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1993Abstract In the field of non-ferrous diecasting, the tool life of the diecasting mould critically affects the cost effectiveness and quality standard of the foundry. It is therefore desirable to prolong the tool lives of diecasting moulds. The primary stresses to which the surface of the mould is exposed are thermal shock, abrasion and chemical ...

PVD-Coating for the Processing of Textiles
Research Journal of Textile and Apparel, 2004The application of textiles has constantly been extended by new developments, material modification and by special procedures. Particularly surface coatings represent an innovative contribution to the textile processing. In the case of synthetic fibers, because they are usually too hydrophobic and inert and there is no sufficient wetting or adhesion ...

Physical vapor deposition (PVD) of ceramics has only recently reached commercial maturity. There are two main process categories: sputter-source PVD and evaporative-source PVD. Both methods have received their greatest development for the deposition of TiN.

Tribological Characterization of PVD-Coatings
Key Engineering Materials, 2010In cold forging processes the high tribological and mechanical loads often lead to early tool failure. If the cause of failure is wear, an extension of tool life could be achieved by the application of PVD coatings. In industrial tools there is a great variety of load cases that causes wear.

Abstract Composite CVD + PVD coatings combine the advantages offered by the CVD and PVD processes. Particularly in milling operations, they provide a combination of wear resistance and chipping resistance that is not obtained with CVD or PVD coatings alone.

PVD coatings of cermet inserts for milling applications
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1996The present paper deals with the influence of some PVD coatings on the performance of a cermet tool when milling blocks of a normalised carbon steel AISI-SAE 1045. Two monolayers (thickness ≊3.5 μm), TiN, and Ti2N, and three multilayers (thickness 6–7 μm), TiCN + TiCN, TiCN + Ti2N and TiN + TiCN, obtained by a cathodic arc technique were deposited ...

Characterisation of tribocorrosion behaviour of multilayer PVD coatings
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2010The effect of repassivation on tribocorrosion behaviour of two multilayer coatings of different structures is studied experimentally by measuring the variation of instantaneous open-circuit potential during friction. One coating consists of alternating Cr and CrN layers, while another consists of alternated layers of CrN and ZrN.

Properties and application of PVD coatings
2000The paper gives description of properties and application of PVD coatings applied by physical deposition in the phase of evaporation at 5000 C which are designed to provide enhancement of tool grinding, edge conditioning and polishing services and prolongation of tools life time.

Developments in PVD tribological coatings
Heat Treatment of Metals, 2001Progress in the development and industrial adoption of PVD tribological coatings over the past two or three decades has been considerable. In particular, TiN coatings are in widespread usage in metal-cutting and other tooling applications. However the practical uptake of PVD coatings for components in high-volume industrial sectors (such as automotive)
