Performance Improvement Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Mordenite Membranes for Oil-in-Water Emulsion Separation

open access: yesAlchemy
Improving the performance of membranes appropriate for oil-in-water separation is a global challenge. In this study, we prepared a PVDF/Mordenite (PZM) membrane and determined its properties to separate oil-in-water emulsions to address this challenge ...

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Thin films of vinylidene fluoride copolymer with tetrafluoroethylene: dynamics of ferroelectric polarization switching

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла, 2020
The vinylidene fluoride copolymer with tetrafluoroethylene P(VDF-TFE) is a typical ferroelectric polymer that has not been sufficiently studied so far in comparison with pure polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and its copolymer with trifluoroethylene.

A Flexible PVDF Sensor for Forcecardiography

open access: yesSensors
Forcecardiography (FCG) uses force sensors to record the mechanical vibrations induced on the chest wall by cardiac and respiratory activities. FCG is usually performed via piezoelectric lead-zirconate titanate (PZT) sensors, which simultaneously record the very slow respiratory movements of the chest, the slow infrasonic vibrations due to emptying and

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

A more sustainable membrane preparation using triethyl phosphate as solvent

open access: yesGreen Processing and Synthesis, 2017
In this work, hydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride) membranes for potential membrane distillation applications, with pore sizes ranging from ~ 0.05 to ~ 0.30 μm, were prepared by employing triethyl phosphate (TEP) as a substitute to the hazardous ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

An enhancement on the dielectric performance of poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based composite with graphene oxide-BaTiO3 hybrid

open access: yesNanocomposites, 2019
In this work, a novel two-dimensional graphene oxide-BaTiO3 (GO-BT) hybrid, via covalent bonding between animated BaTiO3 nanoparticles (BT-NH2) and graphene oxide (GO), have been prepared.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Influence of Bamboo Cellulose Coating on the Flux Performance of Polyvinylidene Fluoride Hollow Fiber Membrane

open access: yesBioResources
This study showcases the characterization of a surface modified polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane via Cellulose/PVDF coating. Scanning electron microscopy shows evidence of Cellulose/PVDF coating where surface roughness and coating ...
