GPS derived PWV for monitoring cloud evolution
2017 Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - FALL), 2017Global Positioning System (GPS) Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) values are widely used in monitoring climatic conditions. Mostly GPS PWV values are studied for rain forecasting. In this paper, we present results which support that the GPS PWV values can also be used to study the cloud evolution properties.

Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV) is a noninvasive and simple method of measuring arterial stiffness and an independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality in some lifestyle-related diseases. We evaluated that baPWV is well correlated with many atherosclerotic risk factors including abdominal visceral obesity and HOMA, and that the ...

Improving GNSS PPP accuracy through WVR PWV augmentation
Journal of Geodesy, 2019Using 5 months of observations at a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and a Water Vapor Radiometer (WVR) collocated station at Tongji University, Shanghai, a mid-latitude coastal city in China with high level of water vapor, we analyzed the precipitable water vapor (PWV) from different sources including WVR, GNSS, Numerical Weather Prediction ...

Wearable PWV technologies to measure Blood Pressure: eliminating brachial cuffs
2013 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2013The clinical demand for technologies to monitor Blood Pressure (BP) in ambulatory scenarios with minimal use of inflation cuffs is strong: new generation of BP monitors are expected to be not only accurate, but also non-occlusive. In this paper we review recent advances on the use of the so-called Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) technologies to estimate BP ...

Detection of lightning activity using GPS PWV measurements
Proceeding of the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Space Science and Communication (IconSpace), 2011Knowledge of lightning activity in the middle atmosphere down to Earth surface and its relationship with a global warming phenomenon is posing a great challenge for observational and prediction studies. This paper utilized the GPS data to monitor the tropospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV) changes as a climate variable due to lightning discharges ...

Research on methods of ABI and PWV measurement
2010 3rd International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, 2010ABI (ankle-brachial blood pressure index) and PWV (pulse wave velocity) are two major evaluating factors in vascular function test. Methods of blood pressure measurement both in time and frequency domain are introduced and compared for calculating ABI value.

Recent data indicate that hypertension is not well controlled in many populations throughout the world. The factors that influence individual response to anti-hypertensive treatment need to be clarified. Pulse wave velocity (PWV), as a marker of arterial stiffness, has been demonstrated to have important relationships with BP progression; however ...

Monitoring of GPS PWV variability at bipolar conjugate points
2009 International Conference on Space Science and Communication, 2009Atmospheric precipitable water vapour (PWV) is one of the most environment parameters that play a key role of the Earth's atmosphere. Characterization of their physical process and forecast the global climate system is a great challenge to investigate how much atmospheric difference between the North Pole and the South Pole in order to understand ...

Giant Magellan Telescope site testing: PWV statistics and calibration
SPIE Proceedings, 2010Cerro Las Campanas located at Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) in Chile has been selected as the site for the Giant Magellan Telescope. We report results obtained since the commencement, in 2005, of a systematic site testing survey of potential GMT sites at LCO.
