A new long-winged pygmy grasshopper in Eocene Baltic amber raises questions about the evolution of reduced tegmenula in Tetrigidae (Orthoptera) [PDF]
Extant pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae) that possess wings have the forewings reduced into scale-like tegmenula, while hind wings remain fully developed. Rusmithia gorochovi gen. et sp. nov. (Tetrigidae, Batrachideinae, Rusmithini trib. nov.) is described

Pitfalls of using sequence databases for heterologous expression studies – a technical review
Abstract figure legend Projects involving heterologous gene expression are often characterised by similar steps. Initially, database research (A) is necessary to retrieve information of full or partial sequences of a gene of interest. A multitude of genome assemblies are annotated and deposited in public databases or are available for refined search ...

Cryptic colouration is an adaptative mechanism against predation. In a computer experiment, we analysed the cryptic effectiveness of male and female colour patterns of Sphenarium zapotecum (Orthoptera: Pyrogomorphidae) grasshoppers. Males were most disruptive and females had higher background matching.

Abstract There are increasing concerns about the declining population trends of small mammalian carnivores around the world. Their conservation and management are often challenging due to limited knowledge about their ecology and natural history. To address one of these deficiencies for western spotted skunks (Spilogale gracilis), we investigated their
