Decoding Gastric Reflexes: The Role of Mechanosensitive Enteric Neurons in Stomach Motility

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, Volume 37, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This review focuses on mechanosensitive enteric neurons (MEN) in the guinea pig stomach and their roles in gastric motor reflex pathways. The guinea pig model is advantageous for studying gastric physiology, as its stomach structure and function closely resemble those of humans. Gastric motility involves distinct functional regions: the fundus

Feline gastrointestinal eosinophilic sclerosing fibroplasia in two cats: Serial ultrasonographic and computed tomography findings

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína
A 6-month-old Ragdoll and 9-year-old Russian Blue cat presented with vomiting. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a pyloric antrum mass with wall layering loss and regional lymphadenopathy in the Ragdoll kitten.

Acute Cervical Vagus Nerve Stimulation Modulates Gastric Slow Waves in the Distal Rat Stomach

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, Volume 37, Issue 7, July 2025.
Slow waves were mapped on the rat gastric serosa during acute cervical vagus nerve stimulation with three stimulation protocols. The medium and high cVNS protocols modified slow wave frequency, and slow wave propagation was temporarily disrupted during stimulation in all subjects.

Loss of gastrokine-2 drives premalignant gastric inflammation and tumor progression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Chronic mucosal inflammation is associated with a greater risk of gastric cancer (GC) and, therefore, requires tight control by suppressive counter mechanisms.

Clinicopathological Factors Predisposing to No. 12a Lymph Node Metastasis in Gastric Cancer: A Prospective Cohort Analysis

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The current standard surgical procedure for gastric cancer (GC) is gastrectomy and D2 lymphadenectomy, which includes harvesting No. 12a lymph node (LN) station. Aim The purpose of this study was to identify the clinicopathologic factors associated with No. 12a lymph node metastasis.

Giant Polypoid Tumor Expressing on the Pyloric Ring

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2015
A 66-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital because of suspected duodenal cancer. Upper gastric endoscopy revealed a giant polypoid-type tumor that extended from the duodenum bulb to the pyloric ring.

Gastric Outlet Obstruction Due to Peptic Ulcer Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Gastric outlet obstruction is a rare complication of peptic ulcer disease, resulting from acute or chronic inflammatory changes. Patient may present asymptomatic or may have mild gastrointestinal symptoms. Some complications may include indirect systemic

Complications Following Open Versus Minimally Invasive Resection of Gastric Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, Volume 131, Issue 7, Page 1302-1312, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) is commonly treated with open or minimally invasive surgery (MIS). The preferred surgical approach remains unclear. This study sought to assess utilization over time, compare complication rates by surgical approach, and identify predictors of experiencing complications. Methods Patients who

Neurogenin 3-expressing progenitor cells in the gastrointestinal tract differentiate into both endocrine and non-endocrine cell types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mice deficient for the transcription factor neurogenin 3 (ngn3) fail to develop endocrine cells in the intestine and pancreas and show partial endocrine differentiation in the stomach.

Growth Differentiation Factor 15 Induces Gastric Fundus Contraction Involving Cholinergic Excitation: Morphofunctional Evidence in Rodent Models

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 11, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15) is a peptide from the transforming growth factor (TGF)‐β superfamily, typically found at low levels in mammalian tissues, but significantly upregulated during cellular stress or injury. Initially recognised for its role in inducing anorexia and vomiting, GDF15 is now seen as a broader regulator of ...
