Fluorescence Decay of Pyrene in a Hydrogenated Pyrene Matrix
Australian Journal of Chemistry, 1979Pyrene, 4,5-dihydropyrene and 4,5,9,10-tetrahydropyrene have been found to form a true solid solution over a range of composition. The measured fluorescence decay lifetime of pyrene in a hydrogenated pyrene matrix has been found to depend on the wavelength at which the emission is monitored, but not on the wavelength of excitation.

Microbial metabolism of pyrene
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1986The isolation and identification of pyrene metabolites formed from pyrene by the fungus Cunninghamella elegans is described. C. elegans was incubated with pyrene for 24 h. Six metabolites were isolated by reversed-phase high-performance liquid (HPLC) and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and characterized by the application of UV absorption, 1H-NMR and ...

The oxidation of pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene by nonbasidiomycete soil fungi
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1995The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of nonbasidiomycete soil fungi to oxidize pyrene (four rings) and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) (five rings). Fungi were isolated from five different soils in which the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content ranged from 0.8 to 80 μg/g dry soil.

Bioavailability of atrazine, pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene in European river waters
Chemosphere, 2001Thirteen river waters and one humic lake water were characterized. The effects of dissolved organic matter (DOM) on the bioavailability of atrazine, pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) was evaluated. Binding of the chemicals by DOM was analyzed with the equilibrium dialysis technique. For each of the water samples, 24 h bioconcentration factors (BCFs) of

Effects of UVA and visible light on the photogenotoxicity of benzo[a]pyrene and pyrene
Environmental Toxicology, 2008AbstractThis study investigated the role of UVA/visible light (U, 320–800 nm) and visible light (V, 400–800 nm) in the phototoxicity and photogenotoxicity of two ubiquitous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH): benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and Pyrene (Pyr).

Properties of the correlated electronic states of pyrene and hydrogenated pyrene
Molecular Physics, 1996Approximate calculations are reported on pyrene within the PPP model Hamiltonian using a novel restricted CI scheme which employs both molecular orbital and valence bond techniques. Also reported are detailed full CI results of the PPP model on 2,7-dihydropyrene obtained using the valence bond method.

3-Hydroxybenzo(a)pyrene as a biomarker of dermal exposure to benzo(a)pyrene
Archives of Toxicology, 2009The aim of this study was to determine the percutaneous absorption flux of BaP (20 microg/cm(2) in ethanol) and the usefulness of urinary 3-OHBaP as a bio-indicator of dermal exposure to BaP. The percutaneous absorbed dose and absorption flux were estimated by comparison with intravenous administration of BaP (0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg in Cremophor) as ...

Pyrene and 2,7-disubstituted pyrenes have been oxidized with ruthenium(III) chloride (RuCl3) and sodium periodate (NaIO4) under very mild conditions to 4,5-diones or 4,5,9,10-tetraones. Thus, the oxidation has been controlled by varying the amount of oxidant and reaction temperature to proceed exclusively at the pyrene 4- and 5-positions or at the 4 ...

Ionization energies of benzo[a]pyrene and benzo[e]pyrene
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1997Photoelectron spectra of benzo[a]pyrene and benzo[e]pyrene have been assigned on the basis of ab initio electron propagator theory. Electron correlation effects are included in the partial third order approximation and agreement with experimental peaks is very close.

[Transplacental effect of benz(a)pyrene and pyrene].
Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1977The transplacental and direct effect of benzo(a)pyrene (BP) and pyrene on A and C57BL mice and their offspring was studied. BP proved to present blastomogenic danger for the offspring. In A mice offspring the greatest blastomogenic effect was expressed with the dose of 6 mg: lung tumours developed in 76.8% against 12.3% in the control (P less than 0 ...
