Effects of UVA and visible light on the photogenotoxicity of benzo[a]pyrene and pyrene

Environmental Toxicology, 2008
AbstractThis study investigated the role of UVA/visible light (U, 320–800 nm) and visible light (V, 400–800 nm) in the phototoxicity and photogenotoxicity of two ubiquitous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH): benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and Pyrene (Pyr).

3-Hydroxybenzo(a)pyrene as a biomarker of dermal exposure to benzo(a)pyrene

Archives of Toxicology, 2009
The aim of this study was to determine the percutaneous absorption flux of BaP (20 microg/cm(2) in ethanol) and the usefulness of urinary 3-OHBaP as a bio-indicator of dermal exposure to BaP. The percutaneous absorbed dose and absorption flux were estimated by comparison with intravenous administration of BaP (0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg in Cremophor) as ...

The oxidation of pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene by nonbasidiomycete soil fungi

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1995
The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of nonbasidiomycete soil fungi to oxidize pyrene (four rings) and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) (five rings). Fungi were isolated from five different soils in which the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content ranged from 0.8 to 80 μg/g dry soil.

Ruthenium(III) Chloride Catalyzed Oxidation of Pyrene and 2,7‐Disubstituted Pyrenes: An Efficient, One‐Step Synthesis of Pyrene‐4,5‐diones and Pyrene‐4,5,9,10‐tetraones.

ChemInform, 2004
Pyrene and 2,7-disubstituted pyrenes have been oxidized with ruthenium(III) chloride (RuCl3) and sodium periodate (NaIO4) under very mild conditions to 4,5-diones or 4,5,9,10-tetraones. Thus, the oxidation has been controlled by varying the amount of oxidant and reaction temperature to proceed exclusively at the pyrene 4- and 5-positions or at the 4 ...

[Transplacental effect of benz(a)pyrene and pyrene].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1977
The transplacental and direct effect of benzo(a)pyrene (BP) and pyrene on A and C57BL mice and their offspring was studied. BP proved to present blastomogenic danger for the offspring. In A mice offspring the greatest blastomogenic effect was expressed with the dose of 6 mg: lung tumours developed in 76.8% against 12.3% in the control (P less than 0 ...
