Effects of bioinsecticide exposure route on aphids and their natural enemies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Fatty acids, silicone polymers and surfactants reduced aphid numbers but caused natural enemy mortality under direct exposure, while minimal residual activity suggests potential for targeted, compatible use in integrated pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Myzus persicae Sulzer and Brevicoryne brassicae L.

Aerial and Tidal Transport of Mosquito Control Pesticides into the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2005
This project was undertaken as the initial monitoring program to determine if mosquito adulticides applied along the Florida Keys cause adverse ecological effects in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS).The study monitored the distribution ...

Seedling resistance and chemical defenses against Psylliodes chrysocephala: the roles of seed age and sinapinic acid in Sinapis alba and Brassica napus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is a major pest of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus). We tested B. napus and Sinapis alba seedlings for feeding resistance and underlying chemical defenses. S. alba was least damaged, while metabolite profiles revealed resistance‐linked compounds, highlighting breeding potential for insect ...

Diversity of insects under the effect of Bt maize and insecticides

open access: yesArquivos do Instituto Biológico, 2018
: The genetically modified maize to control some caterpillars has been widely used in Brazil. The effect of Bt maize and insecticides was evaluated on the diversity of insects (species richness and abundance), based on the insect community, functional ...

Larval antibiosis to cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is absent within oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We screened a panel of 98 Brassicaceae genotypes (97 Brassica napus and 1 Sinapis alba) for cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) larval antibiosis. We found limited evidence for antibiosis across B. napus but consistent antibiosis in S. alba. Brassicaceae relatives may therefore better inform resistance traits for breeding.

Synergistic transition from type‐I‐like to type‐II‐like symptomology in a pyrethroid mixture and its impact on knockdown–mortality relationships in Musca domestica L

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
In the present study, relationship between knockdown and mortality of insecticides was examined against the adult female housefly, Musca domestica. Type‐I pyrethroid insecticides showed a weak linkage, as early knocked down flies did not always result in mortality, while type‐II pyrethroids and organophosphates exhibited strong correlation between the ...

DETERMINATION AND HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT OF PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN WATERMELON (Citrullus lanatus) FRUIT SAMPLES IN WUKARI, NIGERIA

open access: yesThe Bioscientist, 2022
Synthetic chemical pesticides have been globally used to suppress yield loss attributable to pest attack on crop-plants and human exposure to these chemicals has largely been through food consumption.

The Differential Effect of Low-Dose Mixtures of Four Pesticides on the Pea Aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum

open access: yesInsects, 2016
The modes of action of most insecticides are known, but little information exists regarding the toxicological interactions involving insecticide mixtures at low doses.

Behavioural manipulation of the cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala L): Prospects for push–pull strategies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Behavioural manipulation of Psylliodes chrysocephala provides promising opportunities for sustainable pest management in oilseed rape systems. This review synthesises evidence on glucosinolates and their volatile isothiocyanate derivatives as phagostimulants and attractants, alongside the repellent or antifeedant effects of non‐host plants, plant ...

Degradation of insecticides used for indoor spraying in malaria control and possible solutions

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2011
Background The insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT) is widely used in indoor residual spraying (IRS) for malaria control owing to its longer residual efficacy in the field compared to other World Health Organization (WHO) alternatives ...
